It's going to be a busy week on the blog, so let's get started with a cover and book trailer reveal for Played, a Young Adult title from Harlequin Teen.

This Game Is Getting All Too Real

He said: I like to keep under the radar and mostly hang out with my friends from the rez. But when I saved Riley Berenger from falling off a mountain, that rich suburban princess decided to try to save me.

She said: If I can help Sam Tracy win the heart of the girl he can't get over, I'll pay him back for helping me. I promised him I would, no matter what it takes.

And now the book trailer! I liked Hook, the debut novel in this series, and you can read my review here.  I'm excited to show you the trailer for Played.  Played is scheduled to be available on 5/27/14.

K.A. Tucker's FIVE WAYS TO FALL cover reveal

ABOUT FIVE WAYS TO FALL:
Sometimes you can’t change—and sometimes you just don’t want to. Discover Ben’s side of the story in this fourth novel by the beloved, top-selling indie author of Ten Tiny Breaths, One Tiny Lie, and Four Seconds to Lose.

Purple-haired, sharp-tongued Reese MacKay knows all about making the wrong choice; she’s made plenty of them in her twenty-odd-years. So when her impulsive, short-lived marriage ends in heartbreak, she decides it’s time for a change. She moves to Miami with the intention of hitting reset on her irresponsible life, and she does quite well…aside from an epically humiliating one-night stand in Cancun with a hot blond bouncer named Ben. Thank God she can get on a plane and leave that mistake behind her.

Football scholarship and frat parties with hot chicks? Part of charmer Ben Morris’s plan. Blown knee that kills any hope of a professional football career? So not part of the plan. Luckily Ben has brains to go with his knockout looks and magnetism. After three long years of balancing law school with his job as a bouncer at Penny’s Palace, he’s ready to lead a more mature life—until his first day of work, when he finds himself in the office of that crazy, hot chick he met in Cancun. The one he hasn’t stopped thinking about.

If Ben truly were a smart guy, he’d stay clear of Reese. She’s the boss’s stepdaughter and it’s been made very clear that office romances are grounds for dismissal. Plus, rumor has it she’s trouble. The only problem is, he likes trouble, especially when it’s so good-looking…

Synopsis
Virgin. Sex addict. Daredevil. Alcoholic. Smartass … Jackass. Her five friends are about to be filmed. Reality TV, be prepared.

Rose Calloway thought she had everything under control. At twenty-three, she’s a Princeton graduate, an Academic Bowl champion, a fashion designer and the daughter of a Fortune 500 mogul. But with a sex addict as a sister and roommate, nothing comes easy. After accepting help from a producer, Rose agrees to have her life filmed for a reality television show. The Hollywood exec is her last chance to revive her struggling fashion line, and boundaries begin to blur as she’s forced to make nice with a man who always has his way. Twenty-four-year-old Connor Cobalt is a guy who bulldozes weak men. He’s confident, smart-as-hell and lives with his equally ambitious girlfriend, Rose Calloway. Connor has to find a way to protect Rose without ruining the show. Or else the producer will get what Connor has always wanted—Rose’s virginity.

This New Adult Standalone Romance can be described as Friends meets The Real World. Expect fist fights, drugs, sex of varying degrees, crude humor and competitive alpha males. Definitely for mature readers audiences only.

What I thought about Kiss the Sky:

Once again, I'm surprised by a book in this series. I didn't quite know what to expect, and what I got was a very sweet love story.  Rose Calloway isn't the most likeable character at the start.  She's not an "easy" person. Her boyfriend, Connor Cobalt, is arrogant, intelligent, domineering and Rose's perfect match, but he doesn't believe in love. Kiss The Sky is really the story of Rose and Connor gradually opening their hearts to each other.  I enjoyed this romance very much.

Their love story is set against the backdrop of a reality TV show that Rose agrees to in order to help boost her struggling fashion line and help to fix the image of the family company after poor press around her sister, Lily and her boyfriend Lo. Rose's two sisters, Lily and Daisy are part of the reality show, along with Lo and his brother Ryke.

While the goings on during the reality show are interesting, and there's a great villain in Scott, the producer, the real story is Connor and Rose and their relationship. There's no insta-love here, but more like a love transformation. There's tenderness and understanding and plenty of heat between these two.  Krista and Becca Ritchie do a wonderful job of showing the love here, and I especially loved the use of the French language to show the intimacy between these two characters.

I don't want to spoil all the interesting twists that happen, and all the swoony parts, but there was a lot in this book I didn't anticpate, especially the ending.  Kiss the Sky has plenty of drama, but it is the romance between Connor and Rose that really captured my heart.

Recommended.

4 Stars for Live (Burnside #1) by Mary Ann Rivers

If there’s an upside to unemployment, Destiny Burnside may have found it. Job searching at her local library in Lakefield, Ohio, gives her plenty of time to ogle the hottest man she has ever laid eyes on: the sexy wood-carver who’s restoring the building. But as the rejection letters pile up, Destiny finds an unexpected shoulder to cry on. With his rich Welsh accent, Hefin Thomas stirs Destiny so completely that, even though he’s leaving soon, she lets herself believe the memory of his scorching kisses will be enough.

Hefin can’t help but notice the slender, confident woman with ginger hair who returns each day, so hopeful and determined. So when the tears start to fall, his silence—penance for a failed marriage—finally cracks. Once he’s touched her, what Hefin wants is to take her back to Wales and hold her forever. But Destiny’s roots run too deep. What they both need is each other—to learn how to live and love again.

What I thought...

4 out of 5 stars

Meet Destiny Burnside. Well, really the entire Burnside family, because up to this point in Destiny’s life, she’s pretty much defined herself by her family. She’s lost her job, and is still grieving the death of her father and the changes taking place between her and her three siblings. She spends her days job searching in the library in the town where she has lived all her life. While she’s there, she also spends her days watching the artisan woodcarver who is restoring carvings in the library.

Hefin Thomas is a quiet, serious engineer, displaced from his homeland, still grieving the failure of his marriage. He can’t find an engineering job, so he goes back to the woodcarving craft his father taught him. But out of the corner of his eye, he’s watching Destiny, until one day he approaches her.

It’s pretty much clear from the get go that these two want each other, and it doesn’t take things long to heat up. There is only one problem.

Hefin is planning to return to Wales when his work at the library is done. It’s a decision he’s made, and its a good one and they both know it. But in spite of the promise of heartache, they have no other choice than to listen to their hearts as they fall in love.

And they do that while Destiny is dealing with family drama. Her sister, Sarah is ill, and her brother Sam a jerk. And there’s another younger brother PJ. They are all working out a new dynamic between them, and Destiny is in the thick of it. She loves the roots she’s grown in her life, in her hometown. How can she leave, if Hefin were even to ask her?

The last third of this book has some really great scenes, particularly between Destiny and her family, and there was actually a chapter I felt like I was holding my breath. The book is rich with emotion and I absolutely adored the ending.

The first third of the book was a bit slow for me, and there were some bits of awkward writing which took me out of the story. The last two thirds of the book moved along nicely though with the lovely prose I’ve come to expect from Mary Ann Rivers.

Loved Destiny, Hefin and the story of these two. A good start to the Burnside series, I think. If you like to really get into the thoughts and feelings of the characters, you might like this.

3 1/2 stars for Bonfire Beach by Lily Everett

Synopsis:

They’re single, they’re rich, and now these billionaire bachelors are heading to Sanctuary Island in a new e-original novella series from Lily Everett! Fall in love with the island’s latest catch.

Leo, Zane, and Cooper made a pact to stay bachelors and enjoy the single life forever, and when they receive an invitation to their friend Miles’ wedding, they head down to Sanctuary Island determined to talk some sense into the errant groom before he makes a life-changing mistake. But Miles knows his own mind, and he makes a vow of his own: before he walks down the aisle, he’ll have Leo, Zane, and Cooper changing their tune about matrimony. Because Miles knows, better than anyone, that all it takes is a little Sanctuary Island magic to turn romantic cynics into true believers.

Zane Bishop has always been the life of the party, the guy who makes sure everyone is having a blast, and he turned his experiences as a college DJ into a multi-billion-dollar entertainment company. He can’t wait to take control of the bachelor party, but Zane’s plans for an all-night rager come up against wedding consultant Felicity Carlson’s ideas about getting Miles to the church on time and sober. While Zane works overtime tempting Felicity into having fun, she discovers that there’s more to the party boy than meets the eye—but can a woman who makes her living planning other people’s perfect romances ever find true love of her own?

3.5 out of 5 stars

Oh, I liked this second installment in this the Billionaire Bachelor series! It’s a sweet little romance set at Sanctuary Island, where Zane Bishop, the groom’s best friend and Felicity Carlson, wedding planner meet. In book one of the series, the groom, Miles Harrington has bet his friends that they will come to Sanctuary Island and find love. Of course, Zane is adamant that he won’t fall, until he meets Felicity Carlson and there’s an immediate connection.

Felicity wants to plan a romantic wedding and Zane is thinking of a club-type bash. In the process of working out the details of the wedding together, they open up and discover secrets about each other that bring them closer. But when Felicity doesn’t see any hope for a long-term relationship with Zane, she breaks it off and ends up miserable.

Turns out that Zane really does know about creating a romantic wedding, setting up a very charming HEA for these two.

This was a nice little read when you are looking for a romantic novella. Although it’s fairly tame, the lack of explicit sex did not hinder the telling of the story and sets a really nice tone throughout the story. So if you are looking for a short, easy, romantic read, this may be for you.

Thank you St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the ARC and the opportunity to read and review.
