What I thought about Get Witch Quick

I'm always interested in something light-hearted because I read a lot of romance that isn't, so when I read the blurb for this I was intrigued.  Daisy Prescott is also a new author for me, so I thought I'd give it a try.

Get Witch Quick is a novella sized story of Madison and her friends as they deal with a mystery regarding a book.  I absolutely adored the ghosts in this book and how Madison interacted with them and Madison's relationship with Andrew was just precious.

There is quite a bit of intrigue going on throughout the book which/witch I also really liked.  The pace was very quick and held my interest.

That being said, I did have some problems with the many characters that are introduced in this book.  The notes at the end mentioned the Bewitched series that may be able to clear some of the many names that I just didn't catch.

Overall, this was a lot of fun and I'm curious to see where the author will go with the story.

Release Day Review and Giveaway: Under Control (Boston Fire #5) by Shannon Stacey

About the Book
Under Control by Shannon Stacey

Series Boston Fire Series
Genre Adult Contemporary Romance
Publisher Carina Press
Publication Date August 28, 2018

From New York Times bestselling author SHANNON STACEY…
Meet the tough, dedicated men of BOSTON FIRE—and the women who turn their lives upside down.

When faced with the opportunity to change shifts while staying in the same house, veteran firefighter Derek Gilman jumps at the chance. His new schedule means not working Saturdays, which means more time to spend with his two kids. His divorce may have been amicable, but being a firefighter and a single dad is a lot to juggle. And when fate brings a gorgeous, wealthy woman into his life, he’s pretty sure he can’t handle more than he already is.

Olivia McGovern loves plans. She planned to start her own business and planned its growth. It’s earning her seven figures now, but her personal life simply doesn’t exist. Getting trapped in a broken elevator figures in exactly nowhere, and freaking out in front of a sexy firefighter definitely isn’t on the agenda. Especially not one with two kids and an ex.

What would have been a random incident with an attractive stranger becomes something more when a charity event brings them back together. They’re from different sides of the tracks, literally—with friends, family and careers to consider. But as Derek and Olivia are discovering, chemistry doesn’t allow for plans, and love doesn’t bother with logistics.

Don’t miss the entire Boston Fire series by Shannon Stacey! Heat Exchange, Controlled Burn, Fully Ignited and Hot Response are available now!

What I thought about Under Control
This book starts out with Olivia and Derek meeting when they are trapped in an elevator together.  After they get rescued, Olivia rushes off to her meeting and never gets Derek's number.  Derek has the same problem -- he didn't get Olivia's number either and both of them can't stop thinking about each other.

That is until fate brings them together via a charity organization.  It's really cute that they both want each other and it doesn't take long for them to move the relationship forward even though they have many obstacles to deal with.  Derek is a devoted father and Olivia is a dedicated career woman and they live on opposite sides of town making their opportunities to be together a challenge.

I really liked how they both had to decide what they were willing to compromise on for love.  The ending of Under Control hit many emotional notes for me and I absolutely loved it.

Under Control works well as a standalone and drops quite a few names from the previous books in the series that made me want to reread them again.  That's a good thing.

Overall, I liked this. It's a sweet, adult romance that deals with some real-life issues in a very realistic way.

Cover Reveal: Decidedly With Mistletoe by Stina Lindenblatt

Blurb:

Kissing-under-the-mistletoe rule #1: never kiss your ex-fiancée.

Oops.

Ava Versteeg’s plans for the Christmas break include: 1. Drive to Lake Tahoe, 2. Learn to ski, 3. Enjoy hot, earth-shattering sex (and end her sex drought!) and 4. Meet her Forever Love under the mistletoe. Right—the last one was her friend’s prediction, but you never know. What she doesn’t count on is a flat tire, a major blizzard, and for her ex-fiancĂ©, the man who broke her heart ten years ago, to come to her rescue. Oh, damn.

While driving back to San Francisco, former Navy SEAL Liam Quade discovers Ava stuck on the side of the road. She’s the woman he was forced to walk away from ten years ago. And now, she’s the woman who would rather be coated with honey and fed to a hungry bear than to be within ten feet of him. Ouch.

Liam drives Ava to a nearby inn to wait out the storm…and ends up kissing her under the mistletoe. Christmas magic is in the air and Liam realizes he never stopped loving her. But as secrets from ten years ago start to unravel, Liam has to prove to Ava that he’s worth taking a second chance on. He has to prove to Ava that he’s her forever.

Review: Reporting In by Vanessa North

Reporting In is the first (hopefully of many) LGBTQ+ title in Carina Press's Dirty Bits line. These micro-romances are designed to be read in an hour or two--for when you want a lot of heat and a happy ending, fast.

An after-hours workplace encounter turns into an exploration of two men’s very compatible kinks

Behind closed doors, in the office and out, Steven and Jake explore their tastes for rough sex, chastity cages, and dominance and submission.

That Jake is Steven’s IRL boss only makes it better.

There’s only one rule between them: no matter how hot their power play gets, it only happens if Steven feels safe. Personally and professionally.

But when what starts as two guys blowing off steam turns into real feelings above the waist, it’s not that simple.

Going public—having a relationship—would mean putting both their jobs on the line.

What I thought about Reporting In

So... in Reporting In, Steven is an employee in HR who reports to Jake.  Steven is attracted to Jake and when they discover the feeling is mutual, they engage in some sexual encounters in the office.  I have to admit that at first the office relationship felt really inappropriate to me. It is addressed between Steve and Jake, but still, they are riding a very fine line that could really get them in trouble.

That being said, Reporting In is steamy, kinky M/M title that did keep me engaged and entertained throughout the book.  While it didn't take long to read, it had plenty of emotional content both in and out of the bedroom (so to speak, since some of their encounters take place in the office). I did like that their sexy times together brought them closer together emotionally and there became more to their relationship than just their physical encounters.

There's a bit of drama at the end that could signal the end of the good times, but there is a nice happy-for-now ending that I really liked.

If you are looking for a quick M/M read that has some definite kink to it, Reporting In might be what you are looking for.

Excerpt

I needed to stop this. Right now.
My eyes drifted shut as his hand made its way from my neck, skimming down the side of my body, over my lax arm. The tips of his fingers coasted over mine, and then found their way to my hip. A pumping pulse picked up in several key points in my body, responding to the light, forbidden touch.
He didn’t speak as his warm breath kissed the curve of my cheek and I didn’t say or do anything. I could stop him. I knew I could. Or I could at least try.
I did nothing.
His hand slipped over my stomach, below my navel. I jerked, bringing us closer. Way too close once more, and I couldn’t breathe as something bizarre happened inside me. It was like all my senses woke up at once, sparking with life and flaming heat through my veins.
His hand dropped to the front of my dress, right above where a deep, deep ache had started. He growled deep in his throat as he said against the flushed skin of my neck, “Your pulse is racing so fast—too fast for someone entranced.”
Hell.
Oh hell.
The Prince might not recognize who I was, but he knew I wasn’t entranced. Fight or flight response kicked in, overriding the confusing heat pumping through my body.
Two years ago, I would’ve chosen flight. That was all I’d been capable of. Not anymore. A whole different instinct took over, a newly developed one. I had no idea why the Prince was here, in the pit of his enemies, and I wasn’t willing to risk finding out or being caught by him.
Spinning around, I gripped his forearm as I ducked and twisted, slipping free of his grip. I saw the flicker of surprise on his face and then I spun back toward him. Still holding onto his arm, I used his weight as an anchor as I leaned back. Planting my left leg back, I lifted my right and slammed my knee into his midsection.
The Prince grunted as he let go, but he did not move even an inch. That kind of kick would’ve brought a human down. Probably would’ve even knocked a normal fae back several steps, but not an Ancient. He lifted his chin, eyes narrowed with annoyance.
“That was unnecessarily violent,” he said, straightening to his full height.
He hadn’t seen unnecessarily violent yet.
I spun, picking up the chair. It was surprisingly heavy. Grunting, I swung it around, prepared to at least knock him once upside the head. Wouldn’t kill him, but would definitely give me a chance to escape without having to answer questions.
The Prince’s speed was mind-numbingly fast.
I didn’t even see him lift a hand. He just suddenly had ahold of the leg of the chair. He wrenched it from my grip, tossing it aside. The chair hit the wall with a bang, shattering into three large pieces.
Damn.

What I thought about The Prince

Brighton is on a mission to kill all the Fae that were involved in killing her mother. and she's breaking all kinds of rules stalking the Fae in secret clubs,  looking for revenge.  She's quite brave and also gets in trouble, and The Prince is usually there to bail her out. She doesn't really trust him, bus she sure is attracted to him.

And it seems like he is attracted to her. (oh yeah!)

It's a good thing too, because Brighton is going to need the Prince to get out of her latest jam, but everything changes after he comes to her rescue, leaving both of them with a broken heart. I found myself really loving this -- the emotions hit all the right notes for me.

It's been a while since I've read a paranormal title from Jennifer L. Armentrout, and The Prince reminded me of all I'm missing and left me wanting to read this entire series.  The Prince works nicely as a standalone and I think you will want to read the rest of this story when you are done!  I did!

There's a wonderful vibe between Brighton and The Prince, and I was really hoping that it was all going to work out for them, somehow, someway. The Prince doesn't really end in a cliffhanger, but it did leave me wanting more of both of these characters.

If you are looking for a good paranormal romance that includes the Fae world, this might be the title for you.  It's fast-paced, has plenty of action and the romantic elements made me want more, more, more!  That's what I love about the 1001 Dark Nights series -- it give the reader an opportunity to try out the series. The Prince made me want to read more of the Wicked series.
