Release Day Review: Gypsy King (Tin Gypsy #1) by Devney Perry

The former Tin Gypsy motorcycle club has everyone in Clifton Forge, Montana convinced they’ve locked their clubhouse doors and ripped off their patches. Everyone but Bryce Ryan. There’s more happening at the club’s garage than muscle car restorations and Harley rebuilds. Her instincts are screaming there’s a story—one she’s going to tell.

As the new owner of the small town’s newspaper, Bryce is hungry for more than birth announcements and obituaries. When a woman is brutally killed and all signs point to the Tin Gypsies, Bryce is determined to expose the club and their leader, Kingston “Dash” Slater, as murderers.

Bryce bests Dash match after match, disappointed her rugged and handsome opponent turns out to be an underwhelming adversary. Secrets are exposed. Truths defeat lies. Bryce is poised to win this battle in a landslide.

Then Dash breaks all the rules and tips the scales.

One kiss, and she’s fighting to save more than just her story.

She’s fighting to save her heart from the Gypsy King.

What I thought about Gypsy King
I was so very excited to read this for two reasons -- first, I've been looking for a MC romance that I could get into and second, I have heard so many good things about this author.  I hadn't read anything by her until Gypsy King and I'm definitely going to be following this series as it moves forward.

I was hooked from the very first scenes in Gypsy King, especially when Bryce Ryan meets Dash Slater. Oh my! The sexual tension in that meet-up is just off the charts. Things continue to heat up between them each time they are together. It's just so well done, especially since they aren't exactly friends at the start of the book.

There's a compelling mystery to Gypsy King as Dash and Bryce both try to uncover a murderer. I loved the suspense here, and the gradual unfolding of the clues. But I must say that the enemies to lovers story of Dash and Bryce was really what had me turning the pages.

Gypsy King had everything I want in a MC Romance -- hot men on bikes who value friendship and family along with strong women who love hard and protect their men just as much as the men protect them.  I really enjoyed this story and I'm ready for more of this world.

Hard to Bear

It’s 3 a.m. here in cardio-thoracic.

All I can do for now is doze, and think, and doze again. My heart is getting weaker, my body bluer. People I haven’t seen for a while are starting to drop in. (Good to see you, Emily, Jacob, Christa. I’m looking forward to the Martinis.) We all pretend we’re not getting ready to say goodbye. It seems easiest. But my mother cries when she thinks I’m sleeping, so maybe here, now, is time to admit that I might really be on the way out.

I should be grateful. A baby born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome a few years before I was would have died within days. I’ve had twenty-eight years and I’ve managed to do quite a lot of living in them. (Also, I’ve had WAY more operations than you everyday folk. I totally win on that.) OK, so I still live at home and I’ve never had a job and I’m blue around the edges because there’s never quite enough oxygen in my system. But –

Actually, but nothing. If you’re here tonight for the usual BlueHeart cheerfulness-in-the-teeth-of-disaster, you need to nd another blogger.

My heart is failing. I imagine I can feel it floundering in my chest. Sometimes it’s as though I’m holding my breath, waiting to see if another beat will come. I’ve been in hospital for four months, almost non-stop, because it’s no longer tenable for me to be at home. I’m on a drip pumping electrolytes into my blood and I’ve an oxygen tube taped to my face. I’m constantly cared for by people who are trying to keep me well enough to receive a transplanted heart if one shows up. I monitor every fliicker and echo of pain or tiredness in my body and try to work out if it means that things are getting worse. And yes, I’m alive, and yes, I could still be saved, but tonight it’s a struggle to think that being saved is possible. Or even likely. And I’m not sure I have the energy to keep waiting.

And I should be angrier, but there’s no room for anger (remember, my heart is a chamber smaller than yours) because, tonight, I’m scared.

It’s only a question of time until I get too weak to sur- vive a transplant, and then it’s a waste of a heart to give it to me. Someone a bit fitter, and who would get more use from it, will bump me from the top of the list and I’m into the Palliative Care Zone. (It’s not actually called that. And it’s a good, kind, caring place, but it’s not where I want to be. Maybe when I’m ninety-eight. To be honest, tonight, I’d take forty-eight. Anything but twenty-eight.)

I hope I feel more optimistic when the sun comes up. If it does. It’s Edinburgh. It’s October. The odds are about the same as me getting a new heart.

My mother doesn’t worry about odds. She says, ‘We only need the one heart. Just the one.’ She says it in a way that makes me think that when she leaves the ward she’s away to carve one out of some poor stranger’s body herself. And anyway, odds feel strange, because even if my survival chances are, say, 20 per cent, what- ever happens to me will happen 100 per cent. As in, I could be 100 per cent dead this time next week.

Night night, BlueHeart xxx

P.S. I would really, really like for one of you to get your- self a couple of goldfish, or kittens, or puppies, or even horses, and call them Cardio and Thoracic. My prefer- ence would be for puppies. Because I love the thought that, if I don’t make it to Christmas, somewhere there will be someone walking in the winter countryside, let- ting their enthusiastic wee spaniels off the lead, and then howling ‘Cardio! Thoracic!’ as they disappear over the brow of a hill intent on catching some poor terrified sheep. That’s what I call a legacy.

What I thought about The Curious Heart of Ailsa Rae

Ailsa Rae has a serious heart ailment and is waiting for a transplant.  Not expecting to live very long, she hasn't comtemplated what she would even do if she wasn't ill.   Her blog is where she really gets to interact with people, and she has quite a following, calling herself BlueHeart.  But after a transplant heart is identified, and Ailsa makes it through the aftermath, she has some questions she needs to answer.  What is she going to do now that she has a new heart?

What follows is a sometimes cute and sometimes insightful treatment of how one chooses to live their life after a serious illness, told through a mashup of chapters, blog posts and emails.   I liked that about the book as it added some levity to the story.  I also really liked Ailsa and how she handled herself through some of the tougher moments she encounters.

I was really drawn into the story quickly, and The Curious Heart of Ailsa Rae is a quick read that will have you asking what you might do if you had a second chance.  I really liked this story and the revelations Ailsa makes throughout.  Her mother is a terrific secondary character as well.  Overall, a satisfying read from a new-to-me author.

Review: For Her Own Good by Tamsen Parker

From USA Today Bestselling author Tamsen Parker comes a taboo romance of risk-taking, redemption, and how to give voice to our greatest fears and our greatest desires.

“Don’t be greedy,” he murmurs into my hair, and it makes me all the more desperate.

“Daddy, I am greedy.”

When Dr. Lowry Campbell saved my life as a suicidal teen, I thought he was the most perfect man I’d ever known. And then he disappeared for fifteen years.

Now, three months after I became the wealthiest woman on the Eastern Seaboard, he’s back. And he wants me. Finally. But I’m not that girl anymore, and my anger is nearly as intense as my vulnerability. I’ve waited a long time to ask for what I want, and it’s time Lowry know that if he wants to be in my life, he’ll need to earn back my trust and come to terms with my desire to call him daddy…

What I thought about For Her Own Good

For Her Own Good is a taboo/forbidden doctor/ex-patient romance between Starla, the former patient and Dr. Lowry Campbell who is also 18 years older. It's a smorgasbord of forbidden romance.

Their relationship spans many years and there is trust to be rebuild between the adult Starla and Lowry. As they work their way through things, their relationship is a slow- building - burn and while it takes a while to get to the romantic stuff, that's okay because the anticipation works in the story.

It's also great story of a couple exploring alternate lifestyles and taking charge of their happiness and health. Definitely another plus.

Tamsen Parker does a great job of bringing insight into the many dynamics at play in this type of erotica. When delivered with an engaging story like For Her Own Good, that's a 5 star read.

Review: Hard Chrome (American Heavy Metal #1) by Vanessa North

Hard Chrome is a brand new Contemporary Romance from Vanessa North featuring classic cars, sexy auto-techs, heroines who want to keep auto-shops afloat, and small Southern town charm!

This M/F Contemporary Romance novel releases on October 21, 2019!

He’s tough. But she’s tougher.

Tanner Ellis left American Heavy Metal in her rearview mirror. She didn’t see the beauty behind the grease stains and the polished chrome until it was too late. Now she’s back, determined to save her father’s legacy—and bring the South’s premier classic-car shop into the new century. Nothing is going to stop her—especially not the sexy tech who refuses to follow her lead.

American Heavy Metal is the only home Duke Wilson’s ever known, and no high-heeled, sharp-tongued princess is going to take it away. He tolerates Tanner’s advice, and it’s fun to push her buttons, but she doesn’t belong in the shop—never has, never will. The sooner she realizes that, the sooner he can find his new normal.

When Tanner falters, revealing the pain beneath her bravado, Duke comforts her the only way he knows how. And when violence from his past threatens their future, she’ll be there for him, offering him the one thing he’s always wanted—a shot at a real family. He just has to convince himself to take it.

What I thought about Hard Chrome

Tanner returns to her small home town to take over running the family business. She’s got lots of baggage and her main man at the shop isn’t exactly cooperative. Tanner’s Ivy League attitude gets under Duke’s skin and it causes all sorts of situations. They just don’t like each other at first but it isn’t long before the friction turns the enemies into lovers in the time it takes to do an oil change.

The sex is steamy, and there are some more difficult moments as they work out their respective family situations while figuring out their own stuff. I did like the incorporation of diversity into the small town – it felt authentic and I’m interested in seeing where this series goes. Overall, Hard Chrome was a bit predictable, but it did deliver on the Carina Press Romance Promise!

Happy Release Day! 5 BIG ★★★★★ for Moonlighter (The Company #1) By Sarina Bowen

Only in my family could a professional hockey player earning seven million dollars a year be considered a slacker.

I’m at the height of my athletic career. Yet my arrogant brother is always trying to recruit me into the family business: a global security company so secretive that I don’t even know its name.

Pass, thanks. I don’t need a summer job.

But the jerk ambushes me with a damsel in distress. That damsel is Alex, the competitive, sassy girl I knew when we were kids. Now she’s a drop-dead gorgeous woman in deep trouble.

So guess who’s on a flight to Hawaii?

It’s going to be a long week in paradise. My job is keeping Alex safe, while her job is torturing me with her tiny bikinis. Or maybe we’re torturing each other. It’s all snark and flirting until the threat against Alex gets serious. And this jock must become her major league protector.

Moonlighter is a stand-alone novel. No cliffhangers, no prior experience necessary. Contains: hackers, hockey players, and a hotel room with only one bed.

What I thought about Moonlighter

Okay, let's just start with this cover...yum. It totally works for the character of Eric Bayer.  He's got the bod, he's got the super-sense of humor, and he's quite charming when he wants to be.  Oh, and he wrote the book on flirting/teasing combo because he's a master at it.  His character arc is amazing! It's huge and believable and a joy to read!  I just loved this character.

Alex is CEO of a major cable/telecom company.  She already has a strong childhood friendship with Eric when he's tasked to be her temporary bodyguard, but their relationship as adults needs a little nurturing. It isn't long before Alex is noticing that hot bod and is taken in with Eric's flirting and teasing.  They made a great couple right from the start!

The drama and conflict in Moonlighter comes from Alex who thinks her time with Eric was just temporary and the fact that she needs a bodyguard for multiple reasons.  I was completely intrigued by The Company and it's employees and I just can't wait to learn more about them!

Everything clicked for me in Moonlighter.  The romance is amazing -- I loved Eric and Alex together, and in particular, how much Eric changes from the beginning of the book to the end.  It was all terrific!  I'm a long time fan of Sarina Bowen and this is one of her best!  I'm on my third day of a book hangover from this title and that makes me happy!

If you are looking for a sweet romance, with a dash of intrigue, action, a baby delivery and some hockey for good measure, Moonlighter might just be for you!

Cover Reveal: Chase The Butterflies by Monica James

 CHASE THE BUTTERFLIES
Monica James

“Victoria, will you marry me?”

Those words changed my life forever…just not in the way it would for most. I had it all until one fateful evening transformed my life in ways I never imagined.

Nine months later, I move to a sleepy little town, hoping to escape the demons of my past. As I attempt to claim back my life, Jude Montgomery enters my world, and things begin to change.

I thought running would appease the nightmares, but I soon discover my past won’t let go. Things are not what they seem, and I begin to question the world as I know it. Jude may hold the answers, but will my love for him blind me to the truth?

Does the flap of a butterfly’s wings in Brazil set off a tornado in Texas? In my case, yes, it does.

Will the truth set me free? Or will it imprison us both?

My name is Victoria Armstrong, and this is my story…I think.

“With heart and heat and a depth we adore for in our favorite reads, James has penned an absolutely stunning novel.” Christina Lauren, NYT and #1 International Bestselling Authors of Twice in a Blue Moon.

About GIRL IN LUV:

Langley Vaughn is in desperate need of a date.
But not just any date.

She’s looking for a date to the wedding from hell. It isn’t every day you’re forced to be in the bridal party while your first love marries your arch nemesis… otherwise known as the world’s worst stepsister. The entire situation is a nightmare, and Langley is sick and tired of taking orders and forcing a fake smile. She’s done being the bad guy when she was the one who was wronged.

She needs to find a date who’s not afraid of her family’s money and someone who is willing to shake things up. She needs someone outside of her normal social circle, someone ready to go to war with the well-to-do. She needs someone who won’t back down. Someone willing to play the complicated game of tug of war she’s been engaged in with her family for years.

Never in a million years did she think she was going to stumble across her very own heroic heartthrob when she set her crazy plan in motion.

Not only does Iker show up for her time and time again, he also forced her to finally fight for herself.

He says he’s only there for the money… but his actions speak so much louder than his words.

Iker Alvarez would do anything and everything to get his hands on some quick cash.

Not just any cash, but enough to make sure his younger brother gets into the college of his dreams.

Thank goodness for a desperate, pretty little rich girl with too much money and her heart set on an outrageous scheme. Being in the right place at the right time might just be the answer to both of their prayers — and this smart soldier has never let a golden opportunity slide by.

Iker doesn’t mind coming to Langley’s rescue and being her plus-one… as long as the price is right.

Only, he didn’t plan on liking the blonde socialite as much as he does. He is totally unprepared for the pull he feels toward her, coupled with his growing desire to protect her from the vultures and villains living under the same roof.

He wants to be the guy who keeps her safe and gives her the courage to fight back that she obviously needs… But someone else, someone far more powerful and influential than Langley’s wealthy family, has dibs on Iker’s time and on his future. He knows he isn’t the guy Langley can count on in the long run, but damn if he doesn’t want to do everything in his power to be that man.

About BOY IN LUV:

Distance sure as hell made his heart grow fonder… But it shattered hers into a million pieces.

Langley Vaughn knows she's never going to make the same mistake again.

Who falls head over heels in love in a week? Langley did, and she's regretted it every day since she handed her heart to a boy with too many secrets and too much baggage. Iker doesn't fit into Langley's world, and he made it clear he doesn't want to. He left before she even got a chance to try and change his mind or to prove to him how good they could be together. Langley's spent the last nine months healing her heart and making big plans for the future. Plans that absolutely don't include Iker… even though he's back, looking better than ever, and saying all the right things.

Iker Alvarez knows he made the biggest mistake of his life.

At first, the pretty blonde in the red dress was nothing more than a means to an end. But, she quickly became so much more. As soon as Iker walked away from Langley, claiming it was for her own good, he knew he screwed up. He left her so she wouldn't worry about him when he deployed, so she wouldn't waste her time waiting around for a guy who was never going to be good enough for her. Only, nine months and a deployment later, Iker still can't get Langley out of his head… and he totally underestimated the hold she has on his hardened heart. He's a guy who's not sure how love should work, or how to go about winning his girl back…he's about to get a crash course in both.
