About ONE SNOWY NIGHT:

It's Christmas Eve and Rory Andrews is desperate to get home to the family she hasn't seen in years. Problem is, her only ride to Lake Tahoe comes in the form of the annoyingly handsome Max Stranton, and his big, goofy, lovable dog Carl.

Hours stuck in a truck with the dead sexy Max sounds like a fate worse than death (not), but Rory's out of options. She's had a crush on Max since high school and she knows he's attracted to her, too. But they have history… and Max is the only one who knows why it went south.

They've done a good job of ignoring their chemistry so far, but a long road trip in a massive blizzard might be just what they need to face their past… and one steamy, snowy night is all it takes to bring Max and Rory together at last.

“You were on the phone,” Rory said.
               “I was.”
She looked at him, clearly waiting for more, her pretty eyes not giving much away. She was so petite a good wind could blow her away, but that analogy implied she was fragile.
Rory was anything but fragile, and in fact her inner strength was even more attractive to him than her beauty.
“It was Willa,” he said, willing to give her that. Besides she was more curious than a cat and he wanted to appease that curiosity and fast, before she figured out the rest.
She looked at him, surprised. “What did she want?”
Shit. On top of curious as a cat, she was like Carl with a damn bone. He twisted around to buckle Carl back in and then put on his own seatbelt. He turned the engine over and cranked up the radio.
Rory turned it off. “She already made you drive me, so what now?”
               “Nothing.”
Rory turned in her seat to fully face him. “Was she checking to see if we’d killed each other?”
He smiled at that, a thought that had been so close to his own, but she narrowed her eyes, not amused. “What did she want, Max?”
He went to put the truck in gear but she leaned into him to turn off the engine and grab his keys. Her breast brushed against his arm, giving him another zap of awareness.
“Come on,” she said. “This is Willa we’re talking about. I love her, but she’s incapable of not sticking her nose in where it doesn’t belong, especially when it comes to me. What did she want?”
Shit, it’d been two minutes and he was already regretting his “gentle” promise. He looked her right in the eyes. “Nothing.”
Her eyes went to little slits. “Liar.” She opened her door, revealing that the slush had turned to snow, as she swung his keys from her fingers. “Tell me or say goodbye to your keys.”
“That’ll strand you too,” he pointed out.
She raised her eyebrows and he got the message. She didn’t care.
“Fine,” he said. “She told me to be nice to you. Actually, she said gentle.” While she gaped at that, he snagged the keys from her lax fingers, feeling like an asshole when he leaned into her, reaching past her to slam her door shut.
She didn’t shrink back, which meant that their bodies once again bumped up against each other, and it was like they knew what his brain couldn’t seem to comprehend—he wanted her. He was a little thrown by that, and the now familiar zing of electricity, only slightly mollified to realize by the way her breath hitched that she felt it too.
“If you even try to be gentle,” she said, “I’ll get out and walk.”

What I thought about One Snowy Night

I absolutely love this series for two reasons -- it's set in my favorite city, San Francisco and the characters are just so darn lovable.

Rory hasn't had it easy and she's finally feeling confident enough to work on making amends with her estranged family.  I found it easy to relate to her situation.   She just can't seem to get it right and a snowstorm threatens to prove that she is just as unreliable as her family thinks.  That is until Max shows up to offer her a ride home.

Max is a total hottie with an adorable dog and to make matters even worse, a former high school crush of Rory's.  They have some history, but it isn't exactly a good one. A snowy night and a closed road definitely help to put the past behind them and start a new chapter in their story.

This was a very sweet holiday novella that I really loved and seriously wished was longer!  A great addition to this series!

EXCERPT

With my arm wrapped around her shoulder and her head resting against my chest, Sophie had fallen silent. Listening to her deep and steady breathing, I realized she was asleep. I used the quiet moment to assess my earlier reaction and examine my feelings. Even though I’d pursued her with a single-minded focus, I hadn’t meant for any of this to happen. At first I’d told myself we’d have a good time, enjoy each other’s bodies, but it wouldn’t go any further. But I knew I’d been fooling myself from the get-go. I’d fallen hard … and fast. So incredibly fast. The joke was on me though because for once I was the one looking for commitment from someone who couldn’t return the sentiment. The way my chest hurt every time I thought about her leaving let me know I wasn’t going to handle it very well when the day came. I’d already watched her leave Ballycurra once with a lump in my throat. I didn’t need a repeat performance. What I needed was to put pull back now, put some distance between us while I still could. I nudged her shoulder. “Sophie, wake up. We’re home.” Sitting up, she rubbed her eyes. “Home?” “My house,” I clarified. “Oh, right.” Paying the driver, we exited his car and stood side by side on the wet pavement outside my house. “It rained,” she observed groggily, wrapping her arm through mine. Looking up at me with a shy smile, she added, “Thanks for today, by the way.” “You’re welcome.” “I had a good time,” she continued, her eyes searching my face. “I’m glad,” I answered, refusing to meet her stare. “Be careful, the tiles can be slippery, especially in those shoes.” Clinging tighter, she whispered, “You won’t let me fall.” “Nope, you’re safe.” “I am, aren’t I?” she asked as I fitted my key in the lock. “Safe?” I dragged my eyes to hers. I couldn’t be sure, but suddenly it felt like we weren’t talking about slippery walkways anymore, that there was hidden meaning in her words … and mine. “Always,” I intoned, pulling her through the door and into me. With her palms resting flat against my chest, I was sure she could feel my heart hammering against my sternum. Despite the pep talk I’d just given myself, I couldn’t deny how I felt about this woman. She was in my veins. I knew she didn’t trust me not to break her heart, not yet, but I was just as vulnerable. And even though I was probably setting myself up for further rejection, I needed her to know she had a home here. That there was a place for her in my life if she’d only let herself take it. “You’re safe with me Sophie,” I repeated, my lips dropping to hers. “All you have to do is let me in. I’m yours for the taking.” I kissed her again. “Please, take me.”

ARC Review:Tru Smoke by Edie Danford

Where there’s smoke, there’s fire… Whenever Jones touches him, flames flicker in Truitt Larkin's smoky-gray eyes.

Growing up in Ember Peak, Colorado, Jones Hudson nurtured dreams as big as the Rockies. Why else would a flat-broke college student believe he has a shot with Truitt Larkin, the billionaire CEO of Larkin Corp? And, sure, Tru might own the fab, five-thousand-acre Ember Peak Ranch, where Jones is just the son of a ranch employee, but that doesn’t mean a future with Tru is doomed, does it? When he finally, finally convinces Tru to break his chiseled-in-rock no-sex-ever policy, Jones is sure smoke will never shroud Tru’s silver-flame eyes again.

But fire burns and dreams crash. And Jones leaves Ember Peak—and a big chunk of his heart—behind.

Tru knows he’s responsible for fracturing his valued friendship with Jones. Indulging his attraction to the younger man was selfish and destructive—something he’ll always regret. When Jones returns to Ember Peak for a family wedding, Tru wants a chance to heal their friendship and give back to Jones the comfort of coming home. But sparks fly the moment they reunite, and they scramble to douse the passion that’s burned them both before. Yet a flicker of hope glows brightly, and soon they need all their courage to see their way to a future together.

What I thought about Tru Smoke

The story opens with Tru and Jones boinking like crazy in Chicago. There's definite chemistry between them, especially with the younger Jones not being afraid to admit his feelings for his older mentor and friend. I really liked that about this story, how Jones was clear on his feelings. Tru is more reserved, and he's not quite ready for commitment or a relationship.

Jones grew up on Tru's Colorado ranch, and he knew early on that he had fallen for his friend. There's a definite power difference in this relationship, with Tru being the older ranch owner and Jones the son of the Tru's housekeeper. When Tru breaks Jones heart after their incredible week together, Jones is devastated. I was devastated too!

Fast forward three years later. Jones' mom is getting married at the ranch and Jones will be seeing Tru for the first time since his heart was smashed to pieces. I loved the tension in these scenes, because it's so obvious the connection between them is still there, but neither one of them want to acknowledge it. Jones is still hurt, and Tru is .. well, he's Truitt Larkin, multimillionaire ranch owner. That is until he imbibes liquid courage at the wedding!

Once Tru rekindles the heat between them, it's a question of whether or not they can keep it going. Jones is heading off to law school, and Tru has his business, but neither one of them want to leave each other.  They have the summer to decide what to do, and Jones really takes the lead in showing Tru how good it could be between them.

I really liked this May-December romance and the ranch setting where most of this takes place. It felt fresh to me. I loved that Jones is the one wanting the relationship too! There's lots of sex going on in Tru Smoke, too, so if you like your M/M stories with plenty of action between the sheets and everywhere else, you might really like this one. Personally, I would have liked to see them have more conversation, and I found I liked the end of the book very much because they really had to communicate and work some things out without relying on the intense sexual attraction between them to make things right.

Overall, this book kept me interested throughout and wondering how and if they were going to make it. I am definitely interested in reading more about these two characters and what obstacles they may face in the future. Looking forward to the next book in the series which releases in December!

Dash Grainger lives for the high, and so far in his twenty-six years, he’s never met anyone or anything he loves more. Nothing has ever thrilled him as much as slick snow, cold air, and breakneck speed.
