Blurb

I should have died.

I should have been forgotten.

But I didn’t, and I wasn’t.

Living the life most women only dream about, I was madly in love with my soulmate—Asher Valentine—amazing husband, loving father, and rock’s favorite kick-ass front man. A man who loved me every day, in every way, since we first met as teens. We were blessed with a beautiful daughter who was the light of our life. My all-female rock band was tearing up the charts.

Then tragedy struck, and I lost it all.

Now all I have is a stack of journals, an antique key, and a big black void where my memories should be.

Used to be.

And I have him—this man with wild hair, tattoos from head to toe, a soft voice, and an even softer touch that gives me butterflies. He’s clearly hopelessly in love with his wife.

I’m told that’s me.

But that wife is gone, and she took everything they once had, leaving me in her place.

A broken replacement. A new version that doesn’t quite fit.

I’m slowly falling in love with him, but will he ever truly love me? Or will he forever be in love with her, the phantom woman who haunts us both?

What I thought about Asher

I'm always fascinated by stories of true love and fated mates and I've been waiting for this book for some time now.  Asher has been a compelling character throughout this series, and his situation finally getting resolved was very much the draw to this book.

The love of Asher life happens to be in a coma where she's been trapped for years.  Put there at the height of her career, Ember's recovery was a long shot. When she does awaken, she has no recollection of the life she led before. For Asher, Ember awakening is evidence of what he knew would almost happen, except for the fact she doesn't remember what they had together.  He'll just have to demonstrate his devotion to her. It's not an easy position for Ember to be in either.

I really did like Asher's commitment and devotion to his wife during her coma and afterward.  It wasn't an easy resolution between them.  He had to work for her, and she had to accept him a second time.  There's also a daughter involved.

This is a second chance love story that shows how enduring love can be, especially in the face of major challenges. Asher isn't afraid to do the work to show Ember just how much he loved her then, and still loves her now which made for a very heart-warming HEA. I think I would have liked it more without Ember's surprise there toward the end which just seemed ridiculous to me.

Asher is a standalone novel in the Ashes & Embers world, but I would recommend reading the series so you have some idea of the dynamics in this world as they are a bit on the unique side.  Asher is a satisfying addition to the series.

An ARC was provided. This is my honest review.
