Happy Release Day! 5 Stars for Echoes Between Us by Katie McGarry

Echoes Between Us is bestselling author Katie McGarry’s breakout teen contemporary novel about a girl with everything to lose and the boy who will do anything to save her.

Veronica sees ghosts—more specifically, her mother’s ghost, thanks to the blinding migraines that consume her whole life and keep Veronica on the fringes. But the haunting afterimages make her wonder if there is something more going on….

Golden boy Sawyer is handsome and popular, a state champion swimmer, but this All-American is hiding an adrenaline addiction that could kill him. Drawn to each other after a chance meeting, can they help each other battle the demons that haunt their every step or will they push their luck too far and risk losing it
all…including their lives?

What I thought about Echoes Between Us

In this YA contemporary romance, Katie McGarry does what she does best -- delivers a story about two young adults who are forced to grow up too soon and who face some very serious and adult situations.  This book has a lot going on.

Sawyer loves the rush of adrenaline, and he seeks this to escape his mother who has an addiction.  He's left to take care of things in the household and it's getting to be a challenge.  His family has just moved into a supposedly  haunted house, and the upstairs tenant is the "strange" girl from school.

Veronica has lots of secrets too, one of those being she sees ghosts.  There is a paranormal aspect to this book that makes it slightly creepy and a bit different and I loved it!  It adds a bit of a paranormal dash of spice to the story.

You can guess where this is story is going when Sawyer and Veronica end up doing a school project together.  There's a lovely relationship blooming here with these two characters finding that they fit together somehow.  Even though some of the story is a little predictable, there are some surprises.  I loved these two characters. Both have immense situations they are dealing with, and they are good together.

I really enjoyed this, especially the historical aspect of the TB hospital and it's connection to Saranac Lake, one of my favorite places in the northeast.  This tale of young love in the face of many challenges kept me turning the pages after a bit of a slow start to the story.

I'm glad you enjoyed this. I am not much on YA right now. I'm such a moody reader and I'm stuck on a different genre
