Told in alternating timelines, THE THINGS WE LEAVE UNFINISHED examines the risks we take for love, the scars too deep to heal, and the endings we can’t bring ourselves to see coming.

Twenty-eight-year-old Georgia Stanton has to start over after she gave up almost everything in a brutal divorce—the New York house, the friends, and her pride. Now back home at her late great-grandmother’s estate in Colorado, she finds herself face-to-face with Noah Harrison, the bestselling author of a million books where the cover is always people nearly kissing. He’s just as arrogant in person as in interviews, and she’ll be damned if the good-looking writer of love stories thinks he’s the one to finish her grandmother’s final novel…even if the publisher swears he’s the perfect fit.

Noah is at the pinnacle of his career. With book and movie deals galore, there isn’t much the “golden boy” of modern fiction hasn’t accomplished. But he can’t walk away from what might be the best book of the century—the one his idol, Scarlett Stanton, left unfinished. Coming up with a fitting ending for the legendary author is one thing, but dealing with her beautiful, stubborn, cynical great-granddaughter, Georgia, is quite another.

But as they read Scarlett’s words in both the manuscript and her box of letters, they start to realize why Scarlett never finished the book—it’s based on her real-life romance with a World War II pilot, and the ending isn’t a happy one. Georgia knows all too well that love never works out, and while the chemistry and connection between her and Noah is undeniable, she’s as determined as ever to learn from her great-grandmother’s mistakes—even if it means destroying Noah’s career.

Jameson’s head whipped toward the entry, and his heart stopped.

Scarlett stood in the doorway, her jacket folded over an arm.

She looked like heaven.

Her glossy black hair was pinned back, barely brushing the collar of her uniform. Her cheeks were pink, her lips curved in a barely contained smile, and damn, he could see the blue of her eyes from here. She was here. At his base. In his rest room. She was here.

He was halfway across the room before he’d even thought to move, abandoning his beer on the nearest table as he went. A few short strides and he was home, sucking in his breath at the warmth of her skin as one of his hands cupped the back of her neck and the other palmed her waist.

“You’re here,” he whispered, awestruck as she smiled up at him. This wasn’t a dream. She was real.

“I’m here,” she answered just as softly.

His gaze dropped to her mouth, and his grip tightened at the hunger that threatened to consume him. He needed her kiss more than he needed his next breath, but he wasn’t about to do it here. Not in front of the jackass who’d implied he needed company.

“For how long?”

Book Blurb:

I always knew I was different.

From a young age, my mind has been plagued with things only I could see. Some hauntingly beautiful, others completely terrifying. Never knowing if these visions were real or just hallucinations, I learned how to lock them down and ignore them. I learned to take solace in the relative anonymity of city life and find peace in the rainy days my city of Seattle is known for.

But just when I think my life is getting on track and my dreams are achievable, a moment of weakness causes me to learn a hard and fast lesson.

My entire existence has been a lie.

Now I’m faced with a new reality that’s as implausible as it is fantastical. Filled with realms and veils, light and dark, fae and daemons, gods and angels—things I don’t understand but am forced to acknowledge. It doesn’t help that the man teaching me about my unique gifts is the gorgeously handsome Carrick Byrne, one of Seattle’s richest and most powerful men. He intimidates, annoys, and intrigues me all at the same time. I don’t trust him and yet there’s no one else to help me.

No longer certain who to put my faith in, what to believe, or how I fit into it all, one revelation is clear…

The world as I know it will never be the same again.

Release Day Review: 5 Stars for Gray Hair Don't Care by Karen Booth

Everything went wrong. And then she went gray.

At 47, newly divorced makeup artist Lela Bennett is dreading her next steps. Dating. Meeting people. Not letting herself go. But then she runs into Donovan James and tries something different—sleeping with her sexy crush from college. Unfortunately, in a post-orgasm stupor, Lela confesses she was in love with Donovan all those years ago. He responds by leaving while she sleeps. The next morning, her gray hairs are practically taunting her. She knows she has to get it together. Forget men. Embrace her age. Own her gray.

Donovan James is a marketing genius, but his ex-wives will tell you—nothing freaks him out like feelings. Three years after his one-night stand with Lela, he’s focused on his daughter’s lifestyle company, but unprepared to meet the face of their new beauty brand. It’s Lela. With stunning silver locks and new confidence, she’s no longer swayed by his charms. When business starts booming, the universe seems intent on throwing them together time and again. And suddenly, two people convinced that romance was behind them are wondering if love could be what’s next.

What I thought about Gray Hair Don't Care

How very refreshing to read a romance between two accomplished (older than 40) adults in this second-chance  friends-to-lovers tale!  Donovan and Lela started as very close friends in college, but a night together, an unexpected marriage and years apart put some distance between them.  When they meet up again by accident (or is it fate?) they have a chance to revitalize their friendship and more.

When things don't quite work out as planned, Lela makes some decisions that change her life and bring her back into contact with Donovan.  I have to admire Lela -- she has a good sense of herself and what she wants -- and she chooses to put herself first.  She also builds her brand on being herself -- gray hair and all. This romance novel says some really terrific things about body image and loving yourself and that's something we all need to hear.

It takes Donovan longer to figure out what he wants and how to get there, but he eventually gets his head out and decides to follow his heart. This is a very low conflict, low angst sort of story that shows that two people can be made for each other -- if only they can get on the same page and that might take a while. I loved this feel good story, these characters and what they had to say about life after 40!

“Babe,” he growled.

A warning.

Definitely.

I’d gone too far.

I also didn’t care.

“Okay, so then does Tia have to sleep with one, or, say, all of your boys?”

“Don’t do that shit. You know that’s not what I’m talkin’ about.”

“So maybe you’ll explain what you’re talking about.”

“I would, you shut your trap.”

I shut my trap and stared at his shadowed head.

He stared at mine.

Then he muttered, “Christ, need my head examined.”

“You could get off me,” I reminded him.

“Is this shuttin’ your trap?”

I shut my trap again.

“You take of care my house and my business as well as me.”

“What does that mean?”

“That means you move outta the apartment before they kick your ass out. You move into my house. You keep it clean. You keep me fed, that is, when I’m not feedin’ you, and I like to cook, so mostly, I’ll be feedin’ you. You come to work with me and take care of the office, and you go home with me.”

Wow.

Was he serious?

That sounded like…it sounded like…

My God, it didn’t sound like a sex-for-safety arrangement.

It sounded like a relationship.

What I thought about Still Standing

If you have read Kristen Ashley's Chaos series and loved it, you are in for a treat. There's an almost parallel universe to the Denver Chaos series and it's Arizona's Aces High MC. It's all part of the new series from Ashley called the Wild West MC series.

Clara Delaney has hit a bad patch. A really bad patch. She has no money, an ex-husband in prison and is forced to work delivering messages to various underworld players in Arizona. She meets her match when she's slated to bring a message to Buck Hardy, president of the Aces High MC.

Buck is classic MC president material. He's experienced in many things, especially in getting a woman in his bed. But he wants more from Clara (or Toots as he calls her). A little (or a lot) of tequila, a game of pool and Clara ends up right where he wants her. It was this opening scene that really hooked me into this story. Buck's interest in her is more than temporary, and she will need to learn to trust him and that isn't always easy when dealing with a MC that rides the fine line of staying on the right side of the law.

I was sucked right into this story quickly and I was genuinely interested in what was going to happen to Clara and Buck. Clara is sharp and persistent -- Buck is a good-hearted, heavy-handed caveman type committed to protecting those he cares about, especially his family. There are many common shared themes between this series and the Chaos series and readers of Chaos will certainly see the similarities.

I enjoyed this story, even though it wasn't the most original MC I've read. It's a great escape to a different world where the men might rule, but they have one weakness and that's their women who they will protect at all costs. IThere's a nice setup for the upcoming stories.

So overall, a good start to the series, and I hope there will be some new and unique developments coming in upcoming books.

Release Day 5 Star Review: The Bluff (Calamity Montana #2) by Willa Nash

The Bluff by Willa Nash is now live!

As Calamity's newest resident, Everly Christian thought life in small-town Montana would be dull and tame--and she needs a little mundane after the last few chaotic years. But one night, boredom drives her to the local bar, where she finds herself sitting beside a handsome and mysterious artist.

The man is anything but dull and tame, especially in the bedroom, and when she steps out of his shower and overhears his conversation, life gets interesting again.
Reese Huxley needs a wife.

And why shouldn't Everly be the bride?

She's got her reasons for agreeing to the hasty nuptials--reasons she's keeping to herself. As long as she can stop herself from falling in love with her husband, she'll make it out of this sham marriage in one piece. But Everly has a weakness for wayward men, and the more Hux pushes her away, the more she realizes this bluff is anything but a lie.

What I thought about The Bluff
Everly has been keeping to herself as she recovers from the stalker that shook up her life and the lives of others in this second installment in the Calamity Montana series from Willa Nash.
Looking for some quiet, she stays to her apartment watching the people of Calamity from her window. Until one night she decides she's getting out of her apartment and heads for the local bar.  It's late, so she thinks she's going to be alone.  Wrong.  There's another loner at the bar and he's something special.  With his brooding attitude and ripped physique, they share a sexual spark as they nurse their drinks at the bar. After very few words, Everly and "Hux" aka Reese Huxley, go back to her apartment for what was supposed to be one night of sex.  Readers of romance know how that goes -- one night is never enough, and they continue to see each other, even though both have made it clear they are not interested in anything like a relationship.
Hux has a problem though -- he's divorced and has been denied visitation with his teenage daughter. He needs a stable home and maybe if he's married, he can convince the judge that he deserves to time with his daughter. Everly agrees to be his bride of convenience in a move that surprises everyone they know.
Savannah provides lots of teenage angst to this story and she shares something with Everly that they are both keeping a secret. And in spite of not wanting a relationship, Hux and Everly's feelings for each other grow as they deal with the town, Savannah and Hux's ex-wife.  There's also some drama related to Hux's art gallery when his long time friend Katie doesn't want to get along with Everly at all.  Everly is sure she knows why, but Hux is oblivious.
As Everly slides into deep feelings for Hux, she realizes just how dangerous that is, and everything blows up in her face when she discovers Katie's secrets. I felt the knife in my heart too when this all comes to a head and I got teary-eyed right along with Everly. Thank goodness Hux has the sense to get his head out of you-know-where!!
I really enjoyed this story. Hux and Everly are perfect for each other, even when they don't know it themselves. I love a story that knows how to deliver a good cry followed by a heart-felt reconciliation and The Bluff does that perfectly.  This was a book I found myself reading in every free moment because I just liked this characters and wanted to know what was going to happen to them.
If you are a fan of small town romance, hot, steamy pairing and a good dose of angst, you might just like The Bluff too.

Review: Pretty Little Wife by Darby Kane

Lila Ridgefield lives in an idyllic college town, but not everything is what it seems. Lila isn’t what she seems.

A student vanished months ago. Now, Lila’s husband, Aaron, is also missing. At first these cases are treated as horrible coincidences until it’s discovered the student is really the third of three unexplained disappearances over the last few years. The police are desperate to find the connection, if there even is one. Little do they know they might be stumbling over only part of the truth….

With the small town in an uproar, everyone is worried about the whereabouts of their beloved high school teacher. Everyone except Lila, his wife. She’s definitely confused about her missing husband but only because she was the last person to see his body, and now it’s gone.

“Debut mystery author Kane blends tense domestic suspense with procedural details and legal thriller–like verbal sparring. A page-turner built on skillfully layered plotting and an intriguing protagonist.” -Booklist (starred review)

“Intriguing…Kane is off to a promising start.” -Publishers Weekly

What I thought about Pretty Little Wife

Nothing is quite what it seems in this suspenseful thriller from Darby Kane aka HelenKay Dimon. I'm going to keep this short and sweet because I don't want to spoil a single thing.

When a well-liked teacher goes missing, there's the possibility the disappearance is related to missing students.  The cops are looking for any lead that might link these situations together

And then there's Lila, who knows more than she wants to say and has secrets of her own. There's so much to uncover in this story.

I love crime dramas to see how they unravel the crime and the motives, and Pretty Life Wife is complicated. But what I loved most about this story is the suspense -- that edge of the seat feeling that makes you either put the book down because it's too intense or stay up all night reading because you want to see what happens next. I like lots of twists too.  Pretty Little Wife did both for me.

Who is Darby Kane? HelenKay! That’s who!

HelenKay Dimon books are romances, and just as mysteries end with solving the Whodunnit, romances guarantee a Happily Ever After. HelenKay writes in three subgenres within the Romance HEA: Romantic Suspense, Erotic Romance, and Contemporary Romance, and every HelenKay Dimon book has an HEA.

However…

Pretty Little Wife is straight suspense. It’s a thriller and HelenKay is thrilled about it. Here is the set-up:

Her husband is missing, which would be fine with her except she put his body RIGHT THERE and now it’s gone.

But it’s not a romance, and in order not to confuse the promise of an HEA, HelenKay and her incredible editor decided to bring out Pretty Little Wife under a pseudonym.

Enter DARBY KANE. All the great plotting, rich characterization, and fast pacing readers expect from a HelenKay novel — but in a thriller.

HelenKay Dimon is a former divorce lawyer turned bestselling author of more than 40 Romantic Suspense, Contemporary, and Erotic Romance books and novellas. Her books have been featured in various national and international venues and she has had two books named Red-Hot Reads in Cosmo magazine.

She is a four-time RITA® Award finalist in romantic suspense (for Mr. and Mr. SmithFacing Fire, Guarding Mr. Fine and The Fixer) and is 2018 RITA® Award winner for The Fixer. She’s also a Reviewers’ Choice Best Book Award winner in romantic suspense for The Fixer

In addition to writing, HelenKay is Chair of the Policy Advisory Committee of the Romance Writers of America and frequently teaches workshops and classes on fiction writing and romance writing. She lives in San Diego where she is (or should be) working on her next series but might be streaming a show on Netflix.
