Release Day Review:Some Like It Shot (Movie Club Mysteries, #6) by Zara Keane

Some Like It Shot (Movie Club Mysteries, #6)

“Danger was part of my job description, but none of my contingency plans anticipated an attack by a Maine Coon.”

It’s summer on Whisper Island. Ex-cop-turned-private-investigator Maggie Doyle is looking forward to sun, fun, and romance. Instead, she gets bills, an assault allegation, and a busted wrist. To add insult to injury, there’s a movie being filmed on the island, and Maggie’s diva sister has been cast in it—her debut role. While other residents clamor for parts as extras, Maggie wants nothing to do with the shoot.

But when hotshot director Con Ryder asks Maggie to investigate a series of suspicious accidents on the movie set, she can’t afford to refuse. Maggie and her UFO-obsessed assistant, Lenny, go undercover as extras, with Lenny intent on enjoying every second of the experience, and Maggie determined to solve the mystery and leave as quickly as possible. Maggie’s hopes for a quick-fix solution are shot to pieces when the woman who accused her of assault turns up dead.

What I thought about Some Like It Shot

I was so excited to see a new book in the Movie Club Mysteries series from Zara Keane. It's a fun cozy mystery series with a great setting and very interesting and sometimes odd characters.

Private Investigator Maggie Doyle is on the hunt for her latest case -- finding one of the resident's cat -- and that isn't going very well. When she's asked to investigate some potentially dangerous accidents on the local movie set, she is on the case, along with her partner Lenny.

It seems that everyone on Whisper Island wants to be an extra in the movie, so Maggie and Lenny fit in nicely as they go undercover (sort of) to find out who is causing the multitude of accidents on set. Complicating the situation is Maggie's sister is one of the actors in the movie, and things between them aren't so great. And that's not the only thing that might keep things interesting -- she's got an injury that could put her at risk if things get dicey and of course they do!

I just really love this series. It's so much fun to read. The characters are always eye-rolling interesting (and I mean that in a good way), and the core team of Maggie and Lenny are just wonderful. They really click together. And I'm so ecstatic to have Liam getting a little more page time. I've loved the slow development of Maggie and Liam's relationship and Zara Keane does a great job of showing a whole lot of emotion between these two in very few lines. Another thing I absolutely adore about these characters.

So if you like a cozy mystery with a fantastic female heroine, a quirky assistant, and a swoony policeman who tries to keep the two of them from going too far, you might just like this story and series.

An ARC was provided. This is my honest review.

 About the Author

Zara Keane grew up in Dublin, Ireland, but spent her summers in a small town very similar to the fictional Ballybeg.

She currently lives in Switzerland with her family. When she’s not writing or wrestling small people, she drinks far too much coffee, and tries – with occasional success – to resist the siren call of Swiss chocolate.
