5 stars for Atticus by S. Bennett

Atticus: A Woman’s Journey with the World’s Worst Behaved Dog
Sawyer Bennett writing as S. Bennett
Release Date: June 12, 2018

Synopsis:
A heart-warming and deliciously funny story about the world ’ s worst behaved dog and how he trained his human how to love herself again.

Through the haze of vodka and self-loathing, Hazel Roundtree saw the poor creature lying in a ditch.

One brown eye. One blue.
Covered in mud and crying from pain, the puppy was desperately trying to free itself from a hopeless situation.

She almost kept walking by. She had her own problems and besides ... no one had ever stopped to help her.

Who we’re ultimately meant to be is a journey without end, but there’s always a defined start ...

Hazel had no idea the dog would be her beginning, her second chance, the miracle she never saw coming. She named him Atticus. He grew up to be a very bad — and completely awesome — dog. He took Hazel on a life-changing journey filled with mischievous adventure and painful heartbreak. In the end, Hazel grew up to be completely awesome, too.

  What I thought about Atticus

Kicked out of her home by her cheating husband, Hazel Roundtree is just getting by. Her prospects are few.  Down on her luck, she's just steps away from being homeless when she finds a puppy hurt in a drainage ditch.  She saves him, and so begins her story.

Having a puppy under her current circumstances is almost impossible, but Hazel works hard and finds ways to keep this puppy in her life.  This story is really a testament to helping others and how it can change your life and theirs.

I really loved this story.  When I started it, I was so worried that it was going to be a dark tale.  Hazel's life at the beginning of this book is not good, but that one decision to help the puppy changes her life over the course of the book.  I loved Hazel's transformation from where she was at the start of the story to where she is at the end of the story.

Atticus the dog is a total joy, even though he can get into some real trouble!  If you are a dog lover, you will definitely get it!  But while I loved Atticus too, I thought Hazel the star of this story.

If you are looking for a book that will leave you hopeful and your heart full, then Atticus might be the story for you.  It ended up being such a feel good story and it restored my faith that there are really good people in this world.

Recommended.
