 What I thought about The Bully

When Cal Stark decides to retire from football and move to Calamity to be near  his best friend, Nellie Rivera isn't happy about this development.  She's moved to Calamity looking to settle down and it's not going to be easy to do that if her high school bully decides he's moving there too.

 Cal and Nellie have  long been drawn to each other.  There's the spark of a love-hate relationship clearly happening from page one.  At first, all they see is the "hate" part of that situation with high school as the foundation for some serious bullying.  But somewhere along the way, that turned to attraction and something else.

 It's clear that these two are made for each other and they just don't know it yet.  When Cal helps Nellie move some boxes and ends up finding something that will help him understand what really went on in high school, it changes his view of Nellie in a major way.

I liked these two characters together.  They both felt deeply and had some gaps from the past that needed to be filled in to really understand how they felt about each other. Cal gets some help from an woman with much more experience and Nellie is helped along that way by her new-found friends in Calamity.  

The Bully is a quick enemies to lovers story where there aren't a lot of surprises, it just takes a while for these main characters to get themselves sorted out. Just about everyone knows how right they are for each other except themselves. 

A good addition to this series.

This is a very charming nanny story that is a terrific kickoff to this Holiday Brothers series.  Maddox Holiday has returned home successful, wealthy, and single with a young daughter who is acting out every minute of her parents divorce.

 

Enter Natalie, the nanny.  She knows exactly how to work with Violet.  It's quite stunning actually and I really liked this part of the story.  Not only does Natalie find a friend in Violet, but she finds one in Maddox. 

 

It takes a little holiday magic for things to all fall in place, and there's a teeny tiny conflict. Some steamy scenes too.  It was just the sort of quick-read romance that I love to read during the work week.

If you like the "best-friends-little-sister" you might just like this little holiday tale.

 

Stella has been in love with Heath Holiday for ages. But he's best friends with her brother Guy, and never gave her any indication there were any other feelings.

 

But Heath has secretly lusted after STella for years, she just doesn't know about it until they start working together and the daily proximity forces both of them to be  honest with each other.

 

I enjoyed this sweet and steamy holiday story.  It's light-hearted and easy to read.

There are a lot of places I’d rather spend Christmas Eve morning than on a cold, snowy sidewalk outside someone else’s home. I’d kill to be sitting beside a fireplace, drinking cocoa, wearing flannel pajamas and reading a book.

Instead, I’m here, standing in front of my one-night stand’s house, working up the courage to ring the doorbell and tell him I’m pregnant.

What I thought about
A Partridge And A Pregnancy

 

I love surprise pregnancy stories so I couldn't wait to read this title in the Holiday Brothers series.  Tobias Holiday gets a surprise from his long-ago-ex girlfriend who he shared an evening with.  Now everything is complicated. 

 

Eva is a career woman, living her life traveling and focused on her work.  She's in high demand and about to leave on a year-long assignment in London when she finds out she's pregnant by the man who broke her heart.

 

I held my breath a little as I read this one, interested to see how they would resolve this one, and I really adored how they resolved the work and life balance. 

 

I really enjoyed this series.  It's light and has that touch of holiday magic that I look for in a holiday-themed romance.

What I thought about The Brazen

Willa Nash returns to Calamity Montana with The Brazen for a story about Kerrigan Hale, a local Calamity entrepreneur. When her financial advisor and backer dies in a tragic accident, Kerrigan is forced to deal with his angry grandson, Pierce Sullivan.

Pierce has some family grudges that he's playing out and demands that Kerrigan come up with the money loaned to her. They start out as enemies as Pierce tries to put Montana behind him. But everything changes when an angry, intoxicated Kerrigan makes a visit to Pierce's hotel room where one things leads to another and they engage in a blistering kiss.

They say there is a fine line between love and hate and Kerrigan and Pierce start out straddling that line.  Kerrigan hates Pierce, but that kiss...  well, romance readers know right where this is going.  The kiss becomes important to both of them -- and when Pierce and Kerrigan both are stranded at grandad's luxury cabin during a storm, it leads them to explore whether that amazing kiss was just a one time thing or not.

The Brazen is a steamy story that does contain the elements of "insta-love" but it is done in a very believable way. There's something between these two than neither can deny but it does take time, a huge secret and a burned house to get everyone on the same page.

I didn't like Pierce at first, but I did understand his anguish and how his anger manifested.  But he comes through in a major way when it counts, making for a really sweet story that shows the lovely way he demonstrates how he cares.

Most of all, I loved what this story had to say about small towns and the loss of people and businesses that keep them alive.  For me, this story was a lot about Calamity and Kerrigan's dedication to the town she loves. 

The Brazen is a feel-good enemies to lovers romance that won't take long to read and left this reader smiling. I like this author's take on living and thriving in a small town.

What I thought about The Bluff

Everly has been keeping to herself as she recovers from the stalker that shook up her life and the lives of others in this second installment in the Calamity Montana series from Willa Nash.

Looking for some quiet, she stays to her apartment watching the people of Calamity from her window. Until one night she decides she's getting out of her apartment and heads for the local bar.  It's late, so she thinks she's going to be alone.  Wrong.  There's another loner at the bar and he's something special.  With his brooding attitude and ripped physique, they share a sexual spark as they nurse their drinks at the bar. After very few words, Everly and "Hux" aka Reese Huxley, go back to her apartment for what was supposed to be one night of sex.  Readers of romance know how that goes -- one night is never enough, and they continue to see each other, even though both have made it clear they are not interested in anything like a relationship. 

Hux has a problem though -- he's divorced and has been denied visitation with his teenage daughter. He needs a stable home and maybe if he's married, he can convince the judge that he deserves to time with his daughter. Everly agrees to be his bride of convenience in a move that surprises everyone they know.

Savannah provides lots of teenage angst to this story and she shares something with Everly that they are both keeping a secret. And in spite of not wanting a relationship, Hux and Everly's feelings for each other grow as they deal with the town, Savannah and Hux's ex-wife.  There's also some drama related to Hux's art gallery when his long time friend Katie doesn't want to get along with Everly at all.  Everly is sure she knows why, but Hux is oblivious.

As Everly slides into deep feelings for Hux, she realizes just how dangerous that is, and everything blows up in her face when she discovers Katie's secrets. I felt the knife in my heart too when this all comes to a head and I got teary-eyed right along with Everly. Thank goodness Hux has the sense to get his head out of you-know-where!!

I really enjoyed this story. Hux and Everly are perfect for each other, even when they don't know it themselves. I love a story that knows how to deliver a good cry followed by a heart-felt reconciliation and The Bluff does that perfectly.  This was a book I found myself reading in every free moment because I just liked this characters and wanted to know what was going to happen to them.

If you are a fan of small town romance, hot, steamy pairing and a good dose of angst, you might just like The Bluff too.

 Duke Evans was as addictive as hot stage lights and a silky, Southern twang.

He’d almost kissed me. And I’d almost let him. I’d find a way to get over this bribe issue if it meant indulging my crush on the local sheriff. Sure, things would get awkward when I brought him a wad of cash. After all, maybe the reason he’d almost kissed me was for the money.

The woman who hadn’t been kissed in a long, long time didn’t care.

“What’s your plan for the rest of the day?” Duke asked as he drove toward the farmhouse. He rolled down the windows and the breeze tousled the long strands of hair that had escaped his hat.

“Not much. I’ve been on a baking spree.”

“What’d you make?” he asked, his voice low and smooth.

Duke drove with one hand on the wheel while his other arm was propped on the console between us. I hadn’t really noticed a man’s driving posture before, but as with everything Duke, the should-have-been-mundane details jumped out at me like fireworks. His entire demeanor shouted confidence. He was so relaxed in his skin and sexy as hell. The man was driving and I was practically drooling.

He glanced over and raised an eyebrow. Right. He’d asked me a question.

I faced forward and unscrambled my brain. “Cookies. Cinnamon rolls. Banana muffins.”

“You’ve been busy.”

“There’s not much else for me to do. Going from a hare’s speed to turtle pace has been an adjustment. At this point, I’m searching for things to do. Hence the running this morning.”

“My mom’s a teacher. She always says it takes her a couple of weeks every summer to slow down and transition from kid wrangler to domestic goddess.” He reached into the cupholder and plucked out a packet of gum. “Want one?”

“Sure.” I unfolded the wrapper and popped the sweet mint stick into my mouth as he did the same, then I opened my mouth to say something and . . . whoa.

We were rolling through a different neighborhood than the one I’d walked through, but instead of staring at the homes and getting my bearings, my attention was locked on the bob of Duke’s Adam’s apple and the flex of his strong, square jaw.

I bet he had a talented tongue. My experience with men was relatively limited—fame was a jealous lover and wanted nothing more than your undivided attention—but if a man could chew gum like that, I bet his tongue knew its way around a woman’s lips.

What I thought about The Bribe

When small town Sheriff Duke Evans pulls over a young woman during a traffic stop, he realizes that there is whole lot more to the woman behind the wheel. He finds himself in the middle of the high profile disappearance of singer Lucy Ross.

Lucy has her reasons to keep her disappearance secret and she's not about to spill them. So she offers a bribe to Duke for him to keep her secret and not to dig any deeper into her life. Neither one of them anticipates that their palpable chemistry will ignite into something more.

Duke is a great guy. He's respected in the town and liked by many. He's sexy and good at seduction. He doesn't play games with people.  There's some real attraction between these two characters, which is really well done. It just flows so well from sexual tension to passion igniting between them.  

There's a great cast of secondary characters which make The Bribe a good start to the series and a nice dash of suspense that keeps things moving along quite nicely. I was drawn into the story quickly and the characters kept me turning the pages. I adore a bit of action and suspense in my romance and The Bribe brought it all.  Loved it.

Overall, a nice start to this series.
