ARC Review & Giveaway:Uncharted Territory by Tamsen Parker

Before there was Cris, there was Hunter…

Eighteen-year-old India Burke has been waiting for as long as she can remember to escape her life of material feast and emotional famine. Going away to college offers separation from her noxious family and a connection with the best friend a girl could ask for.

While her peers are picking majors and navigating the pool of college dating, Reyes Walter introduces India to the intoxicating world of dominance and submission and to a man who will become utterly obsessed with her. Hunter Vaughn is older, handsome, and just the right kind of arrogant. And he’s never wanted anything as badly as he’s wanted to possess India.

As she comes into her own in these consuming relationships, where pain so often results in pleasure and submission is a gateway to freedom, it’s difficult to define sacrifice. But when Hunter issues a ruthless ultimatum, India will have to choose: give up half of herself or break free of the bondage and belonging she’s always craved.

** Please note: Uncharted Territory is a prequel to Personal Geography. This erotic coming-of-age has no happily ever after, but does offer compelling kink, scorchingly hot sex, and brutal psychological warfare.**

What I thought about Uncharted Territory
At eighteen years old, India Burke is not the assertive consultant we know her to be from the first two books in the series.  Yes, she's brilliant and works hard for the grades she gets, but her life is a bit singular and lonely. Uncharted Territory tells the story of her sexual awakening as a submissive and is a wonderful tale of her growing into that confidence we see in Personal Geography and Intimate Geography.

Early in her college life, India meets Reyes. He's really her only friend in college.  He understands India, and he's kind to her in a way that no one else has ever been.  He's also proficient when it comes to kink, and he recognizes India's needs before she does, and so begins their long-lasting friendship.  He trains her to be a submissive, and it doesn't take long for the dominants in their circle to want her.

When India finds herself attracted to Hunter, she's ecstatic when he wants her, and Reyes brokers the contract that binds them together. It all comes down to how far India is willing to go, and how much control Hunter really wants and the lengths he'll go to get it. If you've read the first two books in this series, you know how this one ends.  That doesn't take anything away from this story.

For me, the most satisfying part of Uncharted Territory is how India comes into her own, not just sexually, but with other aspects of her life.  I loved seeing her path to power consultant, loved her intelligence and backbone. And once you read Uncharted Territory, you will totally understand India's hesitancy to give her heart to Cris. This is a very satisfying prequel story that rounds out this series nicely.

Powerhouse consultant India Burke is notorious for her razor-sharp mind, her incisive tongue, and for always being in control. But during her “lost weekends”—out-of-town, one-and-done, anonymous rendezvous solely for the purpose of kinky sex—she craves a submissive role.

Cris Ardmore, India’s latest tryst, is a Dominant who calls an isolated Hawaiian paradise home. India’s expecting forty-eight hours of contractually defined sex, but instead of serving as just another BDSM Band-Aid, Cris wants to know the real India Burke. Despite her aversion to anything approaching intimacy, India is hooked by their incredible sexual chemistry.
With tension ratcheting up in her professional life, India needs the release Cris offers more than ever, but her repeated visits come with their own risks. No matter how strong their attraction, India is determined to maintain her boundaries in order to keep her life whole after her first love blew it apart. She must choose between taking a chance and handing Cris the road map to her heart or locking down her borders before he does any more damage.

**Please note: Personal Geography is Book 1 of The Compass Series and is not a stand-alone. Intimate Geography, the conclusion to Cris and India’s story, released on March 2nd 2015.**

Fiercely protective of her heart, India Burke let down her defenses when Cris Ardmore went from another notch on her D/s playdate belt to everything she could never admit she wanted.

But being disowned by your family and betrayed by your lover aren’t easy to get over, and India’s old fears of intimacy creep in against a backdrop of professional drama that forces her return to a place that never really felt like home.

Though she proved her loyalty when it mattered most, love is about more than grand gestures and Cris wants all of her—which may be more than India is able to give. Can Cris and India navigate to a shared future or will they forever be off course?
**Please note: Intimate Geography is the second book in The Compass Series and is NOT a stand-alone. Personal Geography, the first half of Cris and India’s story, released December 1st 2014**

Fabulous review, Mare. And very similar to my own which will post this week. LOL

Thank you! Pretty gutsy to write a book where there's no HEA and the readers of the series know how it's going to turn out, and yet I really liked this addition to the series.
