SHAMELESS
Playboys in Love #1
Gina L. Maxwell
Releasing May 30th, 2016
Entangled: Scorched

People say I’m shameless. They’re right.

I like my work dirty and my sex even dirtier. It takes a hell of a lot to tilt my moral compass, and dancing as a private stripper for horny suburbanites doesn’t even register. Neither does hooking up with them afterward whenever the mood strikes—it’s one of the bennies of the job—but it’s always a one-and-done. I don’t do repeat performances. Ever.

Until I meet the one girl in all of Chicago not interested in dry humping my junk. She’s all I can think about, and that’s a problem, because I made sure she wants nothing to do with me. But I’ve seen her deepest secrets, her darkest fantasies, and they match mine to a fucking T.

I want her. Bad.

Now I need to show her how good it can feel…to be shameless.

Review:Beyond Ecstasy by Kit Rocha

The O’Kanes have a reputation for working hard and playing harder—except for Hawk. He joined the gang with one goal: to ensure his family’s survival through the impending war with Eden. It’s been years since he had the luxury of wanting anything for himself. Now, he wants Jeni. From the first moment he saw her, he’s been obsessed with making her his. Not for a night—forever. Jeni’s been lusting after the former smuggler for months, but he keeps shutting her down. She’s almost given up on getting him in her bed when he offers her the last thing she ever expected—a collar. Accepting it means belonging to him, body and soul. It’s a reckless gamble, but Jeni can’t resist the chance to slip under Hawk’s armor.

The only thing more shocking than the dark, dangerous pleasure they discover is how right it feels. But falling in love is even more reckless when forever is far from guaranteed. Because they aren’t just at war, they’re out of time—and every breath could be their last.

What I thought about Beyond Ecstasy

I was so very excited to see this book's release!  In the last installment, the war between Eden and the sectors starts taking shape and the sectors are left waiting for Eden's next move.

There's plenty of tension happening here, with dead bodies on wire fences and Eden glowing like a debilitating lantern at night. Dallas and the gang don't know when Eden is going to attack and that has everyone on edge.

Thinking that Eden will cut off the food source to start, Dallas sends Hawk out to the farms, and Hawk and his mother and sisters have to face the fact that they might just have to leave their home in a hurry when Eden attacks.

With thoughts of war, come thoughts of not making it, and so Hawk takes a chance on the woman that he loves. Jeni cares about Hawk too, but is worried about the real reasons Hawk is offering a collar and more.

This book is really more about Hawk and Jeni and their love story rather than what is going on between the sectors and Eden, and that was okay with me.  I liked their love story, even though it's a familiar one.  We've seen Jeni's concerns before from some of the women in previous couples.  For me, Hawk was the attraction in this story. I found him to be very soulful and self-sacrificing and so in love with Jeni.  I loved that about him.

Being that this is the second to the last book in the series, I had hoped to see more of the whole sector four gang in this book and there were a few great scenes that I thought could have been expanded. A good book will leave me wanting more, and I did feel that at the end of Beyond Ecstasy

Kit Rocha does a great job with building the tension in this book, although at times I felt it fizzled out a little. There's a scene with Ace and Gia and Jeni when she returns from Eden that could have been pages longer in my humble opinion, just because the emotions were so wonderfully portrayed, I wanted more, more, more.

I loved Hawk and Jeni's story (although I thought their relationship issues were resolved a little too quickly) and I'm loving when the entire Sector is involved in the war story.  I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

Overall, I enjoyed Beyond Ecstasy and it kept me reading until the very end. Another great addition to the series!

Againsttheodds_high
Cover Design: Regina Wamba - MaeIDesign and Photography
Release Date: May 27, 2016

Synopsis
Love the music—never the man.

At twenty years-old, Sabrina Caroline was America’s sweetheart pop star, until she took a year off to treat her social phobia that her cut-throat-manager/mom paid top dollar to keep quiet. Now as part of her comeback, she’s forced into collaboration with one of the hottest rock bands topping the charts—Birds of Prey—whose lead guitarist happens to be her biggest mistake…and her biggest regret.

Hawke Owens never imagined Birds of Prey would surpass the basement of the Duncan High School for Performing Arts, let alone score them a European tour. But success has its price, and for him, it’s being forced to work with the only girl who shattered his heart—Sabrina Caroline. She’s everything that he remembers and more, every memory and fantasy come to life. At first touch, their connection is electric, but it’s also as strong as her determination to follow her number one rule—she doesn’t date rock stars…even though she’s become one.

Loving her again is as natural as holding his guitar, but she’s destroyed him once, and this time the stakes are higher, more public, and the consequences life-altering. Against the backdrop of the birth of MTV, they’ll have to choose between the demands of their label, and the demands of the heart.

Excerpt
He took my face in his hands and leaned in until he was all I could see, all I could feel, and smell. How easily he consumed me with a simple touch. “There have been too many women. Too many meaningless encounters. Too many faces. But there’s only been one name in my mouth, and it’s always been yours. Only yours.”   His mouth met mine without preamble, and before I could protest, I was lost to the feel of his lips on mine.   It was so familiar, yet new. When his tongue stroked the seam of my lips, I opened for him, and reveled in his groan as he sank into the kiss. I found the support beam against my back as he pressed against me, our bodies aligning with the fit I’d always remembered as perfect.   It was still just as exquisite.   His hand stroked down the side of my body, a path of fire igniting in his wake until he gripped one of my hips, pulling me even closer to him. With the other, he tilted my head for a deeper assault, exploring the recesses of my mouth, lingering like he didn’t already know every part of me.   It was the best second first kiss in the history of kisses.
I arched, pushing my breasts against his chest, and looped my arms around his neck. Then I kissed him back with every ounce of passion I’d missed these last three years. I kissed him the way I’d fantasized about since I walked out, with tiny nips and fuller, lingering caresses. When that wasn’t enough, I sucked his tongue back into my mouth and reveled in his groan of surrender.
He still wanted me, and that knowledge was more intoxicating than any alcohol, more high-inducing than any drug.
His hand shifted, running under my dress until he met bare skin where my garters attached to my stockings. “Holy shit, Brie. You’re going to be the death of me.”
He squeezed my bare thigh, and I lifted my leg, semi-wrapping it around his hip.
I’d almost forgotten how powerful it was to kiss Hawke, how it consumed every sense, every thought, until I was just a jumble of feelings and need. It was never just a kiss, it was a full-body experience that blocked out the rest of the world.
A moan escaped my lips as his set to my neck, and my head rolled back against the beam. He hit the spot right above my collarbone and I whimpered.
“I love that sound,” he murmured, then gently sucked that patch of skin so he could hear it again.
“Hey guys—whoa!” Chad’s voice penetrated my haze of desire.
“Go the fuck away,” Hawke said, moving so I was covered from Chad’s gaze. “Yeah, well, I would—I mean, good for you guys, and it’s about damn time—but
Oscar Oswald is here and he’s asking for us.”
I pushed gently against Hawke’s chest. If Oscar Oswald was here, it could mean huge things for their career. He was the biggest name going in rock. “You need to see what he wants.”

Release Tour Review:Sugar Daddy by Sawyer Bennett

Title: Sugar Daddy (Sugar Bowl, Book #1)
Author: Sawyer Bennett
Release Date: May 24, 2016

Synopsis:

Sela Halstead lost her innocence in a way that no sixteen-year-old should ever have to endure. She’s spent years trying to forget that night even while wondering about the identities of the monsters who brutalized her—until a telltale tattoo flashes across Sela’s TV screen. The incriminating ink belongs to Jonathon Townsend, the millionaire founder of The Sugar Bowl, a website that matches rich older men with impressionable young women. Obsessed with revenge, Sela infiltrates Townsend’s world, only to come face-to-face with a tantalizing complication: Beckett North, his charismatic business partner.

The tech mastermind behind The Sugar Bowl, Beck always gets what he wants, in business and in bed. And yet, for a man who’s done every dirty thing imaginable, there’s something about the naïve, fresh-faced Sela that sparks his hottest fantasies. Because with her, it’s not just about sex. Beck opens up to her in ways he never has with other girls. So why does he get the feeling that she’s hiding something? In a world of pleasure and power, the shocking truth could turn them against each other—or bind them forever.

Note: Sugar Daddy ends on a cliffhanger. Sela and Beck’s story continues in Sugar Rush and Sugar Free!

What I thought about Sugar Daddy

Raped at sixteen, Sela Hallstead finally gets her life back together when she identifies one of her rapists.  That sets  her on a path to revenge, only she doesn't count on meeting Beck.

Beck is her rapist's business partner and friend. They run a service pairing Sugar Daddies, right successful older men, with Sugar Babies, the young women willing to enter into contracts involving sex and money. Yeah, it's as creepy as it sounds but I thought Sawyer Bennett kept it from becoming a total turn-off.

Most of the book focuses on Beck and Sela's relationship and their falling-in-love story.  I loved that part of the book, and I held my breath as Sela decided what she was going to do about JT, rapist and best friend of Beck.

The book does end on a cliffhanger, and I appreciated the warning!  I don't mind cliffies, and I thought this one did what a good cliffhanger does -- had me thinking about the possibilities all day long!

So a great start to this series.  It kept my attention to the end and it was a bit on the shorter side which worked well with the subject matter. I liked that the rape details are done with restraint, because that kept my attention on Sela and Beck. I'm not happy with Beck at the end of this book, so I'm looking forward how things will work out for these two.

What I thought about Against All Odds

In this second chance love story, Hawke and the girl who broke his heart are reunited and must figure out whether they can make another go of things. They are both in the music industry, with Hawke having the reputation of a classic rock and roll bad boy and Sabrina coming back from a health related hiatus. Not exactly a recipe for success, especially when Sabrina's manager-mother isn't in favor of them getting back together.

Once these two manage to clear the air, it's evident to everyone that they belong together, but the price of their relationship could damage Sabrina's career and her squeeky clean image.

It will take a bucket load of honesty, a whole lotta love for Hawke and Sabrina to be brave enough to get together.  This was a very cute love story set in the MTV era, nicely sized for an afternoon reading.

Excerpt

Avett

Don’t worry, Sprite, bad decisions always make for good stories…
I could hear my dad’s gruff voice, lightened with humor, in my ear as he told me those words every single time I got caught doing something I wasn’t supposed to do when I was growing up. I was always doing something I shouldn’t then and now, so I heard those words a lot from him. Unfortunately, as an adult, my bad decisions resulted in consequences far worse than a scraped knee or a broken wrist from falling out of the tree in the backyard he warned me repeatedly wasn’t sturdy enough to limb. And sadly, my dad reassuring me in his firm and gentle way, while calling me his little Sprite as he kissed my boo-boos, wasn’t going to help my current situation at all.
              This boo-boo was big-time.
              This boo-boo was life-changing.
This boo-boo was anything but a good story waiting to be told.
This boo-boo very well could be the end of me, the end of the rope where my patient parents had dangled precariously for years, and it very well could be the end of any kind of future I may have had. A future I was well on my way to letting a lifetime of bad decisions and even worse choices screw up. At barely twenty-two, bad decisions had sort of become my stock in trade and were as familiar to me as my own face. I was almost legendary, at this point, for putting all my trust in the absolutely wrong kind of people. If there was a wrong path to take, I was going to skip gleefully down that road and not look back until I ended up exactly in the kind of situation I found myself in at the moment. It wasn’t like this was even a new dead end; it was the same one I ran into over and over again. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t get myself turned around, and the longer I was at this dead end, the darker and more wicked it became.
I knew better. I really did, even if there was a boatload of evidence contradicting that fact.
I wasn’t stupid, naïve, immature, or senseless. I might appear that way to anyone on the outside looking in, but I had my reasons for being a consummate failure and lifelong loser. All of those reasons had nothing to do with me not knowing better and everything to do with me knowing exactly what I deserved.
For a long time now I had been spiraling out of control, whirling, falling deep and deeper into a pit of really awful actions and consequences, each seemingly worse and more painful than the last. I also hadn’t made any kind of effort to try and pull myself out of it, so logically I knew the only place I was going to end up was right here, right at the lowest part of rock bottom. I never imagined the landing would be so jarring.
