About THE HAZARDS OF SLEEPING WITH A FRIEND:

Warning: Sleeping with a friend might change your life forever.

Sleeping with Kyle was never in the plans. Pretending to be his girlfriend was one thing, but letting our relationship become anything but platonic was another. The problem with mixing friendship with sex is that inevitably feelings get involved, and when that happens there's no turning back.

When Kyle's life fell apart around him, I needed to help, but doing that meant opening myself up to the most terrifying thing in the world—falling in love.

Synopsis
Emery
No matter how hard I try, I never seem to be able to escape my family’s world. Their madness controls my life, just like insanity consumes my mind.
Sometimes it’s hard to tell what’s real.
Sometimes it’s hard to tell who I really am. The person everyone sees? Or the one I keep trapped inside?
I wonder which person Ryler sees. Just like I wonder who I can trust.
Wonder. Wonder. Wonder.
I wonder too much.
I wish I could just find a way to escape it all and finally be free.

Ryler
I live a double life and sometimes I hate myself for it. Watching Emery fall apart—pretending I don’t care—is killing me inside.
I want to tell her the truth, but I also want a new life.
Want. Want. Want.
I want too much. Sometimes it’s hard to tell what I really desire.
I wish I could be free from the confusion, free from this life.

Excerpt
“If you want to dance, dance. There’s no judgment at these things, which makes them pretty awesome.”
She smiles, and then threads her fingers through mine. “Okay, let’s dance, then.”
I don’t bother mentioning that dancing can be extremely sexy when done under the right circumstances—circumstances that usually include alcohol and sexual tension.
At first, Emery is cautious, keeping her distance from me as she rocks her hips to the music. I move with her. I’ve never really been into dancing, but I can rock out to a little garage rock any day. The longer the song goes on, the more into it she gets, until she finally spins around and presses her back against my chest. That’s when the two of us decide to start playing a dangerous game of Want But Can’t Have. A very, very dangerous game that is really fucking tortuous to play yet impossible to give up.
Emery starts grinding her hips to the sultry beat of the song. With each movement, her ass brushes against my cock, making me go rock hard. I grip the curves of her hips and my hands unnecessarily slip underneath the bottom of her shirt. My fingers delve into her soft flesh, and I bite back a moan. Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve forgotten just how soft her skin is, how amazing she smells, how incredible she feels against me.
She shivers from my touch and presses closer, rolling her hips and driving my body absolutely mad. She repeats the movement over and over again, until finally, I damn near lose my mind.
Gripping her waist, I spin her around to face me. “I thought you didn’t know how to dance?”

Excerpt

Today is the last day I will allow myself to feel sorrow, the last day I will shed tears, because tears don’t change anything. I need to harvest whatever strength I have and hold it tight. I’m a mother who has an infant that needs me to be both mom and dad.
One day, they say. One day this will stop hurting.
Lies.
This will never be okay or stop hurting.
I’ll never be the same. The woman I was before died the minute the knock on the door came. I’m a shell of the woman I was. The woman who was loving, open, and full of hope is gone. Hope is a weak bitch who couldn’t give two fucks about what you want. So I rely on faith. Faith that I’ll make it through this and find my heart again.

Exclusive Excerpt:
I slowly walk down the dark hallway and stop at Katie’s doorway. Her pink nightlight is on, illuminating the room. I don’t want to go in, but I can’t stop myself. The mix of her presence and her void is completely overwhelming, and I fall to my knees in the middle of the room. The pain in my chest is like nothing I have ever felt before, as if my heart is being ripped from my body and sliced into tiny pieces. I want her back so bad. I want to just feel her tiny hand in mine and tuck her into bed.

Lifting my head, my eyes fall on Teddy, Katie’s coveted bear that she left here to ‘take care of me’. I crawl to the small bed and lie my head next to the little bear that, just a few days ago, we tucked into her blankets together until she’d be back. Pressing my face against the little bear, I can’t hold back my tears anymore.

Review:Off Campus by Amy Jo Cousins

Synopsis

Everyone’s got secrets. Some are just harder to hide.

With his father’s ponzi scheme assets frozen, Tom Worthington believes finishing college is impossible unless he can pay his own way. After months sleeping in his car and gypsy-cabbing for cash, he’s ready to do just that.

But his new, older-student housing comes with an unapologetically gay roommate. Tom doesn’t ask why Reese Anders has been separated from the rest of the student population. He’s just happy to be sleeping in a bed.

Reese isn’t about to share his brutal story with his gruff new roommate. You’ve seen one homophobic jock, you’ve seen ’em all. He plans to drag every twink on campus into his bed until Tom moves out. But soon it becomes clear Tom isn’t budging.

Tom isn’t going to let some late-night sex noise scare him off, especially when it’s turning him on. But he doesn’t want any drama either. He’ll keep his hands, if not his eyes, to himself. Boundaries have a way of blurring when you start sharing truths, though. And if Tom and Reese cross too many lines, they may need to find out just how far they can bend…before they break.

Warning: This book contains cranky roommates who vacillate between lashing out and licking, some male/male voyeurism, emotional baggage that neither guy wants to unpack, and the definitive proof that sound carries in college housing.

What I thought about Off Campus

Off Campus is the up close and personal story of Tom Worthington -- how he finds himself and regains his self respect in the aftermath of his father's crimes. All Tom wants to do is work, finish school and make his own way but he doesn't count on his roommate to shake up his life the way Reese Anders does.

After a very contentious start, Tom and Reese develop feelings other than anger toward each other, and I loved that it took a little while before they found their way into bed together. There's an emotional relationship developing here along with a scorching hot physical relationship.

Reese has some things he's dealing with too, and I loved how Tom was incredibly considerate of the things that triggered Reese.  But when Reese wants to take their relationship public, Tom isn't comfortable with that and it threatens their relationship in a big way. I love how Reese knew exactly who he was and what he wanted from this relationship.

For some this book might seem slow, but for me, I loved getting inside Tom's head. It was great to see how he worked through some of his issues, with and without Reese's help. This book was rich in emotions and introspection, and I liked that very much about this story.  Even though Tom's reactions were sometimes hard to take, it was evident that he had some things to work through on his own.

There were a few technical issues that kept me from rating this higher.  I don't like when one character poses a question and then the other goes into pages of internal monologue before answering the question.  This takes me out of the story and I often have to go back to see what the question was when it finally gets answered. Some of the transitions between scenes weren't as smooth or easily identified as different scenes and that too took me out of the story a bit.

Overall, I really liked this story and give it a solid 4 star rating. It's not just a coming-out sort of story, but a story of determining what you are really made of.  When all was said and done in the book, I loved Tom's journey and I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.

Review:Higher Octave (Heavy Influence) by Ann Marie Frohoff

Synopsis:

Jake Masters has fallen from musical grace. His inner demons didn’t care about the awards, the multi-platinum records, the legions of fans around the world, nor his undying love for Alyssa. When Jake comes through fray, blurry about his future, he meets an unlikely inspiration, reigniting his passion and reason for living.

What I thought about Higher Octave
Jake has spent the last few years digging himself out out of rock bottom. He's lost his band, his mates  and the woman he loves. Things haven't been easy on  him, mostly his own doing, but he's managed to get himself together. He's got some new songs he wants to try out, too.

Running into Aly at a mutual friend's wedding give him some hope too, that maybe, just maybe it isn't over between them. It's a long shot, but he's isn't giving up on having the love of his life, just yet.  With a new friend and his career revived, he might have what he needs to get Aly back.

But a tell-all book threatens to expose all of Jake's past mistakes, and some shady characters lurking in the periphery had me wondering what was coming next.

I love this story of Jake and Aly, and Higher Octave might be my favorite book in this series.I really loved seeing how Jake has grown over the course of this series.  I'm not sure that Aly deserves him.

That's the charm of this series, seeing how these two characters mature and change as they experience life's ups and downs. Higher Octave painted a wonderful picture of Jake's recovery and re-entry into the world that had me turning the pages and feeling happy for him at the end.

Can't wait for the next book in the series to find out whether Aly and Jake can find a way back to each other.

Review:Lure by Alyssa Rose Ivy

LURE

LURE is the first novel in Alyssa Rose Ivy
New Adult Paranormal Romance series
The Allure Chronicles!

Amazon ** Barnes & Noble ** GooglePlay ** iTunes ** Kobo

About LURE:

 There's danger in the beauty...

Two years, six months, and twenty-five days. That's how long it had been since I'd seen my winged hero— not that I'd been counting. I'd suffered through years of counseling just to convince my friends and family that I wasn't crazy and knew he didn't exist.

But he did. And I was done waiting.

Days after college graduation I headed back down to New Orleans to retrace my steps and find Owen again only to find my life was about to get even crazier... thanks to the most beautiful and dangerous of all paranormal creatures, the Allures.

 Excerpt

We stood awkwardly for another moment before I had to break the silence. “It’s been a while.”

“Two and a half years.”

“I thought about you the past few Halloweens.”

“I thought about you more than that. It’s actually pretty humiliating now that I’m standing in the same room with you. I don’t know what I was thinking.” She looked away.

“I lied.”

“About?”

I walked toward her. I had to wipe that regret off her face. “I thought about you a lot more than just Halloween.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah.” I stopped right in front of her. “You were very memorable.”

“So were you.” She licked her lips. Again with the lips.

“I probably should ask you a million questions right now, but would it be okay if we put those off and did something else?”

“I guess that depends on what else you want to do?” Her eyes widened slightly.

“I want to kiss you.”

“I’m okay with that.” Her eyes seemed to sparkle.

“Yeah?”

“Yeah.”

I didn’t wait for her to change her mind. I brushed my lips against hers gently. I was going to keep it short, but I had to know if I was glorifying the last kiss.

She moved her lips against mine, and any thoughts of keeping it short disappeared. I wrapped my arms around her as I deepened the kiss, greedily pushing for access beyond those irresistible lips of hers. She opened up, welcoming me in with the same intoxicating taste as she had the last time.

She moaned, encouraging me to continue the kiss. I didn’t need the encouragement. I lifted her up and carried her over to the couch. I sat down, settling her on my lap. I needed her close, closer than standing would allow.
Her fingers tangled in my hair as she let me explore her mouth. My hands ached to explore more, but I didn’t want to rush it. I’d waited over two years to taste her lips again, and I was going to enjoy every second of it.

What I thought about Lure:

Daisy returns to New Orleans to look for Owen. She isn't there very long before she meets up with paranormals -- again. Turns out her attraction to paranormals and them to her isn't just an accident. Not only did she attract the vampires that attacked her 2 years ago, but she's in for some new information as to what sort of magic the witch used on her on that fateful trip.

Meet the Allures, a paranormal that feeds off emotions and everyone thinks is extinct, but isn't. They want Daisy so they decide to help her find Owen and in the process, more information is revealed about the Society and Owen's place in this complex world of multiple paranormals.

This book kept me guessing all the way through. What did the mysterious Allures want with Daisy? Why was Daisy so willing to go with them? (You would have thought that getting almost drained by some very nasty vamps would make her a little more wary of these supernaturals that surround her.)

There's something to the tone and voice of this series that I really like. It's odd and creepy and different. Owen and Daisy has some serious spark between them too that keeps that romantic element alive in the story. I love how I feel like I'm right in the middle of this paranormal world and that humans are secondary characters. There's a pretty huge cliffhanger to end this first book.

Very intrigued by this story and I'm looking forward to book 2 in the series.

Don't miss SEDUCTION'S KISS,

the prequel novella to Lure (The Allure Chronicles #1)...

 Seductions Kiss

About SEDUCTION’S KISS:

*Prequel novella to Lure (The Allure Chronicles #1)*

Never agree to a road trip to New Orleans with your roommate. At least not when your roommate is dragging you along while she reconnects with an ex-boyfriend. Possible consequences of failing to take my advice:

1) Unknowingly going out with a vampire stripper
2) Getting kidnapped by said vampire's nest mates
3) Falling head over heels for your winged hero

Believe it or not number 3 is the worst one, especially when no one believes you that he exists.

What I thought about Seduction's Kiss: Great prequel to Lure! The suspense and creepiness was off the charts with this one, and it was what captured me right away about this series.

Seduction's Kiss is currently free for a limited time.

Review: The Gilded Cuff (Surrender #1) by Lauren Smith

Every passion has its price . . .

There has always been something in his haunted eyes that she couldn’t resist and now, when she’s certain he holds the key to solving a string of kidnappings, she’ll do anything to speak to him. Even if it means venturing deep into the seductive world of the Gilded Cuff, a luxurious BDSM cluwhatb on Long Island’s Gold Coast and Emery’s personal playground.

From the moment Sophie enters his shadowy, sensual domain, Emery Lockwood knows this tantalizing new little sub was meant to belong to him. However, Sophie wants more from Emery than just pleasure . . . she wants his past. And that is something he isn’t willing to give—no matter who is asking. What I thought about The Gilded Cuff

When I read the synopsis to The Gilded Cuff, I thought this was going to be more of an erotic romance, but after reading the book, it seemed to me to be more romantic suspense with BDSM elements.  That was okay for me though, because I really liked both the suspense plot and the romance between the main characters.

For me, the best part of The Gilded Cuff was Sophie and Emery. From the very moment they meet at the BDSM club, there’s definite heat between these two. I loved the opening scene at the club.  When they make a (questionable) deal  that puts them together 24x7, it was only a matter of time before they’d fall for each other. I thought the BDSM content was light, with Emery as a Dom with a heart, and Sophie as a mouthy submissive. They were cute together and I loved the romantic element of  the golden cuffs.

They both have lots of baggage and rightfully so, based on what happened to them. I loved how they helped each other face some things, and I really liked the suspense plot regarding the kidnappers and who is ultimately behind it all, but at times it seemed uneven to me. There were a lot of twists and unexpected happenings and some of those scenes could have been “more”.

Overall, I enjoyed this story.  I’ll definitely be looking for the second book in the series.
