4 1/2 stars for Summer Rain

I loved this anthology. I can't say enough about it. Usually with anthologies, there are one or two stories by favorite authors I read, but I thoroughly enjoyed all the stories in Summer Rain.
Summer Rain is an anthology of nine romance novelettes, edited by Sarah Frantz. Each story is introduced with a special note from the author, and I thought that made these stories very special and really enhanced their  enjoyment. So here are a few brief notes from each one.

All proceeds from the volume will be donated to the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (www.rainn.org), the largest anti-sexual violence organization in the United States.

Redemption by Ruthie Knox...Redemption is the kind of story I've come to expect from Ruthie Knox -- two ordinary people with problems trying to find their way. Both Jesse and Mike are down on their luck, the kind of bad luck that can break a person. Will they grab on to what they have? Is it enough? Sweet and simple story about opening up and taking chances.

The Heart of It by Molly O'Keefe ... High class escort Elena and sexual abuse survivor Gabe work through some tough issues that illustrate just how deep abuse can scar. I had a hard time getting into the very beginning of this, but once they started talking to each other the story really exploded into something achingly sad and beautiful that had me choked up in a good way by the end.

Sacrifice by Cecilia Tan A very creative supernatural story about a demigod and the virgin sacrifice tithed to him. This sweet story was unique and I liked it alot. Best line: "Close your eyes," he murmured into my ear, though my eyes were already closed. "There will be thunder when I come."

Real Feelings by Charlotte Stein An amazing story of love from Charlotte Stein. There’s so much more to this than just love between a woman and her android. It is about Real Feelings as the title suggests. So lovely and believable. Favorite line: “He used that massive processor in his head not only to map my reactions and interpret my desires, but also to see right to the heart of me.”

Rainy Season by Mary Ann Rivers..Working as a barista, Lisa can see what everyone is missing in their lives but she doesn't see what's missing in hers until she asks out the math teacher that's been coming into the coffee shop for the last 6 months. Will he open her eyes to see what’s been missing in her own life?

The Rain in Spain by Amy Jo Cousins A young married woman struggles with feelings that she’s incompatible with her list-making husband and puts off a serious conversation about it until the end of their trip. After a night of the spontaneity she craves, will they be able to move forward together? Very nice slice-of-life story in a young married couples life.

Fitting In by Audra North “Not conforming to people’s expectations doesn’t mean someone deserves to be shamed.” This might have been my favorite story of the lot. So many messages here, I loved how Leila helped Stas “see” things differently. I loved Stas’s journey in Fitting In. Every word of this hit the target for me. Lovely, lovely story full of heart.

Private Study by Shari Slade Tess is a bit rebellious and has a different way of expressing herself sexually. Her website and her videos have some of her male classmates thinking she’s a slut because of it. After one creep makes inappropriate suggestions, another classmate comes to her defense, not that she needs it. But Jameson just wants to get to know the real Tess -- will she let him?

Storm Warning by Alexandra Haughton When Amy returns home to Texas after her dream job in Los Angeles doesn’t quite work out the way she planned, the first person she runs into is Tom, her former best friend who told her that her dream was stupid. There’s still a lot of anger over that as far as Amy is concerned, but a sudden storm forces Amy and Tom to talk through what happened all those years ago and uncovers deep feelings that can take their relationship out of the friend zone. Sweet second chance story.

About the Authors

In this romance anthology, RITA-Award winning authors come together to tell the tales of the power of love, second chances, and self-sacrifice. Weathering the storm and romance has beautifully come together in nine novelettes. Each story unique, told through the voices of many talented authors. All proceeds from the volume will be donated to the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (www.rainn.org), the largest anti-sexual violence organization in the United States.

ARC Review: One Sexy Ride by Vivian Arend

His goal is to stand firm

As the middle child in a big family, Len Thompson has found it easy to slip under the radar. His relationships outside the family-run garage tend to run a mile wide but only an inch deep as he keeps his heart, body and soul protected. But when the one woman he’s always wanted makes it known she’ll soon be leaving town, he can’t resist letting her into his carefully constructed fortress.

Her gift is rocking his world

Chasing her best friend’s big brother has both entertained and frustrated Janey for years. She’s not sure what triggered his change of heart, but hell, yeah, she’ll accept it. All of it. Every kiss, every touch, every bit of body-shaking pleasure. Working to meet her renovation deadline is suddenly not nearly as interesting as the mind-blowing escapades she’s enjoying with the big sexy mechanic.

When old fears threaten, Len must finally choose—face his past or let their future crumble.

What I thought about One Sexy Ride

Len's wanted Janey for as long as he can remember and Janey feels the same way about him. When they finally decide to take the plunge and date, some of Len's secrets and insecurities come right along with the all the wonderful and sometimes unsettling feelings he feels when he's around Janey.

There's an awesome scene when they are at the local diner having their first date. I just loved it. Vivian Arend does a great job taking a very ordinary scene and makes it a lot of fun. I really liked the quiet Len Thompson and for the most part understood his reasons for being hesitant to give his heart to someone. I thought it was cute he was still a virgin, and Janey does an awesome job of relieving him of his v-card. But the question comes down to whether he's willing to let his heart go to her too.
The more I read from this author, the more I like her stories. There's humor and some really sweet and sexy times, along with just enough drama to get you invested in the characters. Recommended.

Redeeming You by Lisa Cardiff Blog Tour and Giveaway

After walking away from a controlling relationship, Taylor Reed is broke, homeless and unemployed. When her brother, Alec, the drummer for Chasing Ruin offers her a job working for Chasing Ruin for the final thirty days of the tour, Taylor jumps at the chance.

Unfortunately, that job entails keeping Cam Donovan, Chasing Ruin’s lead guitarist, out of trouble for the remainder of the tour, but Taylor isn’t worried. She’s smart enough to keep her distance and there’s no way she’ll let herself be another notch on his bedpost.

Cam Donovan’s life hasn’t been the same since he ruined his chances with Bre, his childhood sweetheart. With regrets eating at his soul, he fills his life with meaningless one-night stands blurred by alcohol and drugs until Chasing Ruin threatens to kick him out of the band.

When Taylor joins Chasing Ruin on tour, he’ll do anything to avoid the mutual attraction simmering between them. He can’t afford another the distraction. But as the lines blur, and the days turn into weeks, Cam and Taylor realize their feelings for each other might be too hard to ignore.

Excerpt:

Cam moved to the front of the stage for the guitar solo in the middle of one of her favorite Chasing Ruin songs, “Life the Wrong Way,” and Taylor couldn’t peel her eyes away from him. He played the guitar so naturally, as though it was an extension of his body and his soul.

When she’d watched Chasing Ruin in the past, she normally kept her attention focused on her brother because she like seeing him happy, especially after the childhood they had, and playing the drums make him happy even if nobody else could tell by looking at his serious face.

Tonight, however, Cam had every ounce of her attention and more. The crowd screamed, lights flashed, and she’d never seen anything as seductive as Cam moving to the music, his fingers flying over the fretboard, his arms straining and his muscles flexing. She could see the sweat dripping down the side of his head; it was beautiful.

Excerpt

I’ve never been the type of person who sits around and dwells on life. Bad things happen all the time and overthinking them has never done shit to change anything. I remember when I went back home—or to the place I should consider home—I didn’t really understand what was going on. At thirteen I should have, but people who are kidnapped are supposed to have been hurt. They’re mistreated and locked away. They aren’t happy and loved the way I had been, so the whole thing was hard to wrap my head around.
For about a week after they sent me home, that’s all I thought about. The people who raised me and the people who lost me. How they both loved me even though I didn’t know quite how to feel about any of them. Didn’t know how I felt about that screwed up word love at all. Rex and Melody had always told me they’d loved me but now I knew they’d stolen me. My real parents said they loved me but they didn’t really know me. I wasn’t their little girl anymore. How can you love someone you don’t know?
It hurt and I cried, my chest feeling hollow and broken, knowing I should feel so many things I didn’t know how to.
      Nothing changed.

I didn’t hurt any less. My real family was still broken-hearted and confused, and I’d lost who I considered my mom and dad.
That’s when I decided I wouldn’t lose myself in the past anymore. I wouldn’t stress and dwell on things I couldn’t change or even things I could, because if I made that decision the first time, there was a reason. I would stick with my choices, even when someone didn’t get them or I got shit for being closed off or hard. And I wouldn’t worry about love or try to figure it out.
Girls aren’t allowed to feel that way, I guess.
This is why I’m pissed that I haven’t stopped thinking about Maddox since he walked out of Masquerade.

We are thrilled to celebrate the Release Day Launch of K.A. Tucker's FIVE WAYS TO FALL!! FIVE WAYS TO FALL is the fourth novel in her Ten Tiny Breaths Series, published by Atria Books an imprint of Simon & Schuster.

About FIVE WAYS TO FALL:

Purple-haired, sharp-tongued Reese MacKay knows all about making the wrong choice; she’s made plenty of them in her twenty-odd-years. So when her impulsive, short-lived marriage ends in heartbreak, she decides it’s time for a change. She moves to Miami with the intention of hitting reset on her irresponsible life, and she does quite well…aside from an epically humiliating one-night stand in Cancun with a hot blond bouncer named Ben. Thank God she can get on a plane and leave that mistake behind her.

Football scholarship and frat parties with hot chicks? Part of charmer Ben Morris’s plan. Blown knee that kills any hope of a professional football career? So not part of the plan. Luckily Ben has brains to go with his knockout looks and magnetism. After three long years of balancing law school with his job as a bouncer at Penny’s Palace, he’s ready to lead a more mature life—until his first day of work, when he finds himself in the office of that crazy, hot chick he met in Cancun. The one he hasn’t stopped thinking about.

If Ben truly were a smart guy, he’d stay clear of Reese. She’s the boss’s stepdaughter and it’s been made very clear that office romances are grounds for dismissal. Plus, rumor has it she’s trouble. The only problem is, he likes trouble, especially when it’s so good-looking…

EXCERPT:

Ben

I love the angry ones.

Of course, anyone who knows me would argue that I love any and all women, and I can’t exactly disagree. But I love the angry ones the most. They’re a challenge to be conquered, the reason for their fury usually fitting neatly into three buckets: insecure, scorned, hormonal.

And this chick gazing up at me with fire in her caramel eyes?

I’m betting on bucket number two.

“My, what an awfully bright red shirt you have on,” she pushes out between gritted teeth, as if she’s trying to be polite but can’t hide her disdain.

I didn’t know what I was walking into when the punk-rock chick with the crazy-ass muscular body waved us over, but her friend with the purple hair and her back to me had me intrigued. Now that I’m getting a good look at her face, I know who I’m spending my last night with in Cancún. She’s not what some would call traditionally “pretty.” Her eyes are slightly too big and far apart, her nose is slightly too long and slender, and her lips—though nice and wide—are on the thin side. Yet something about all of that put together makes her sexy as hell. Maybe it’s the little nose ring. Or maybe it’s the way her decent-sized tits are pressing up against me, her low V-neck tank top—a casual shirt, telling me she’s not trying to pick anyone up—giving me a fine view of her cleavage. Whatever it is, my dick is certainly pleased. “You like it?” I ask.

An irritated glare flickers to the material. “No.”

I can’t help but chuckle at her candor. “Will you at least give me a head start before you gore me?”

Those thin lip curls into a condescending smirk. “Bulls don’t see color. That’s a myth.”

The only thing I love more than an angry girl is a smart, angry girl.

This is going to be fun.

“Well, how about I solve the problem for you.” I take a step back from her and swiftly yank my shirt off, exposing six days of suntanned skin and an upper body that I know looks damn appealing because I work my ass off to keep it that way. The random catcalls from the tables around confirm it.

And then I simply stand there and grin like the cocky ass that I am as Angry Girl can’t keep her eyes from scanning the muscles I’ve honed since my college football days, her lips parting ever so subtly. I see the shift in her, the moment where she realizes that, though she’d prefer to castrate the entire male species right now, she can’t ignore her attraction to me.

At least, that’s what I want to see.

Giveaway & Review: The Saint by Tiffany Reisz

Book Synopsis:

In the beginning, there was him.

Gutsy, green-eyed Eleanor never met a rule she didn't want to break. She's sick of her mother's zealotry and the confines of Catholic school, and declares she'll never go to church again. But her first glimpse of beautiful, magnetic Father Søren Stearns and his lust-worthy Italian motorcycle is an epiphany. Suddenly, daily Mass seems like a reward, and her punishment is the ache she feels when they're apart. He is intelligent and insightful and he seems to know her intimately at her very core. Eleanor is consumed—and even she knows that can't be right.

But when one desperate mistake nearly costs Eleanor everything, it is Søren who steps in to save her. She vows to repay him with complete obedience…and a whole world opens before her as he reveals to her his deepest secrets.

Danger can be managed—pain, welcomed. Everything is about to begin.

What I thought about The Saint

The Saint is a continuation of sorts for the Original Sinners series. It has some new reveals, but mostly it’s the story of Nora’s introduction to Søren. The Saint fills in many of the details that we didn’t get in the first four books and will totally thrill the fans of this series.

The story begins with Nora taking off by herself, hiding away, obviously upset. When someone special follows her, Nora tells him her tale of meeting Søren and eventually, Kingsley. While the story will be familiar to fans of the series, it does answer many questions regarding Nora’s family. And of course, there’s plenty of sexual tension rising between Nora and Søren in those early days that keeps the kink in the story.

There are a lot of twisty reveals in The Saint and it’s one big reason I love this series and the way that Tiffany Reisz puts her stories together. It’s often hard to write a review and not spoil all that fun, so let me just say this. Fans of the series will probably love learning more about Søren, Nora and Kinglsey. It’s a great addition to the series, and I can’t wait to see Tiffany Reisz peel away another layer of this onion with The King, the next book in this series.

Giveaway & Review: Fake It by Jennifer Chance

Anna Richardson meets the baddest (and sexiest) of bad boys in FAKE IT, the second novel in Jennifer Chance's sizzling Rule Breakers series, out on July 1, 2014 from Random House.

Want to get to know Jennifer better? Check out this exclusive interview!

About FAKE IT:

As her sizzling new series continues, Jennifer Chance sparks some serious combustion between a sexy biker and a corporate go-getter who’s ready to let her hair down.

New grad Anna Richardson works hard—so hard that she’s given up having a romantic life. Anna has even convinced her friends that she’s dating an amazing guy—who they’ve simply never met. But now Anna has a wedding to attend and needs to produce the hottie she’s been lying about for the past six months. Enter Jake Flynn, her infuriating, motorcycle-riding, jaw-droppingly gorgeous neighbor, who’s more than willing to fake it for a weekend. In fact, Jake won’t be satisfied until things get real.

Though Jake is only playing the role of adoring boyfriend, he’s starting to feel the heat, and judging by Anna’s sweet blush, so is she. Letting chemistry this intense go to waste would be a real shame. Soon, though, the thin line between fantasy and reality fades. Jake may not be what every buttoned-up fast-tracker wants, but he’s sure as hell what Anna needs. And if she takes a ride with him, their adventure never has to end.

Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes and Noble

Also in the Rule Breakers series: ROCK IT by Jennifer Chance!

What I thought about Fake It

I liked this story of Anna, driven career woman and Jake, knight in shining armor.  When Jake agrees to help Anna out and play her boyfriend at a weekend wedding, She's told all her friends that she's seeing someone, and Jake steps in to play "Dave".  He's got a bit of an agenda, having watched her the last six months walk past his garage. Anna wants him too, but can't come right out and say so. But Jake does a good job using his sexy charm to lure Anna into having some fun. Complicating matters is Anna's ex, who happens to work with her at her high pressure job and thinks nothing of asking her to work crazy hours.

Jake is one smooth operator, and he says and does just about everything right with Anna. And his bad-boy-ness is really over the fact he rides a motorcycle.  Otherwise, he's a stand up guy. I really liked Anna and Jake together, they worked for me and I found their story more believable than the first one in this series.

So overall, thought this was a pleasant, easy read, with just the right amount of drama to keep things interesting yet not make it too heavy.

Review & Giveaway: Star Struck by Laurelin Paige

Title: Star Struck
Series: Lights, Camera Companion
Author: Laurelin Paige
Publisher: Samhain
Publication Date: June 17, 2014
Summary: Onto every diva’s backside, a little wood must fall.

Hollywood actress Heather Wainwright was looking forward to a long, relaxing break before starting her next shoot. Except her assistant volunteered her for L.A.’s annual 24 Hour Plays.

Nervous about doing a good job for such a worthy charity, Heather falls back on “diva” mode, a defense mechanism that always carries her through. Until she encounters something that really gets on her nerves—a lowly carpenter whose Norse god eyes pierce right through her.

Highly sought-after production designer Seth Rafferty has little patience for A-listers with superior attitudes, which is why his attraction to Heather is absurd. Yet, sensing vulnerability beneath her screen-queen act, he lets her assumptions play out.

After the wrap party, Heather awakens with little memory of the night before—except that Seth gave her the best orgasm of her life, then disappeared. When he shows up on the set of her next movie, she winds up to give him a piece of her mind…and Seth shows her just how stinging hot “chemistry” can get.

Warning: Contains an outwardly snobby actress with a good heart, a delicious carpenter with a power drill, some much-deserved spanking, and an appropriately consensual—if tipsy—orgasm, as well as sex at an inappropriate time of the month.

What I thought about Star Struck

Cute tale about a diva meeting her match. Heather is instantly attracted to Seth, that is until she finds out he's a carpenter. Seth feels something for Heather, too, but backs off a bit when he finds out she looks down at him because she thinks he's a carpenter. He's not really a carpenter and so begins the lie.

As with all good drama, that lie comes back to bite him, and unfortunately both Seth and Heather have lost their hearts to each other by this point. There's a nice journey for both of these characters, especially as they learn more about each other.

There's some definite heat between Seth and Heather, some nice banter, and a pregnancy scare with a little bit of twist that keeps the first part of the book moving. Even though I though there were a few slow spots, I did read this in a day.

I like this series. It's a bit different with the movie star angle and I find it fun. Nice summer beach read.
