Review, Excerpt & Giveaway:The Hazards of Sleeping with a Friend by Alyssa Rose Ivy

About THE HAZARDS OF SLEEPING WITH A FRIEND

Warning: Sleeping with a friend might change your life forever.

Sleeping with Kyle was never in the plans. Pretending to be his girlfriend was one thing, but letting our relationship become anything but platonic was another. The problem with mixing friendship with sex is that inevitably feelings get involved, and when that happens there's no turning back.

When Kyle's life fell apart around him, I needed to help, but doing that meant opening myself up to the most terrifying thing in the world—falling in love.

I glanced out the window and saw her. Jade? She’d driven all the way up to find me? I stared at her for a moment. Her dark hair was soaked, and she had one arm wrapped around her chest as she anxiously watched the door.

She began shivering, and I snapped. I couldn’t leave her standing out there in the rain. I opened the door and took in her sopping wet form. “Jade.” Her name came out in barely a whisper.

“Kyle.” She stood there staring at me.

“What are you doing here?” I tried to keep my voice level, but I was hit by such all-encompassing emotion that I could barely see straight.

“I’m here because I need to be. I need to be with you.” Her eyes remained fixed on mine.

Her words almost broke me. I fought the urge to reach out to touch her. One touch and I’d never be able to let go. Instead I broke the intense gaze between us and gestured for her to get out of the rain. “Come in.”
“If you’re sure.” Her eyes searched mine, probably looking for evidence that I was really inviting her in.
“I am.” I took her hand and pulled her inside, closing the door behind her.
“You’re here.” My body trembled with the effort to keep away from her. Did I think I could really stay away? That I could hold any anger or resentment toward the girl who lit up my life? “How’d you know I’d be here?”
“I didn’t know for sure. I got the address from Dana and took a chance.” She dropped her now sopping wet bag on the floor. “I’m worried about you. Everyone is. I know you are hurt, but that isn’t a reason to run away from everyone. You need to let someone in.”

What I thought about The Hazards of Sleeping with a Friend
I just really love this series and it's not a surprise that I really liked The Hazards of Sleeping with a Friend.  Jade and Kyle are friends. Good friends. They work together and go to school together. And they are secretly attracted to each other but neither wants to move forward past friendship for their own reasons, until Kyle is invited to a family function and has to bring his "girlfriend".

Of course Jade is going to help him out and it doesn't take long before they both learn the hazards of sleeping with a friend.  Playing at being a couple in front of Kyle's family is challenging but not any more than figuring out their relationship when they go back to school.  But when tragedy strikes, well, things get even more complicated.

What I loved about this story was the realism. The Hazards of Sleeping with a Friend does a great job of capturing what might happen when you cross that line with a friend, and all the emotions that go along with it.  I thought they had in under control until the end when things just go sideways for them and I did get a little bit choked up about it.

What I like about this series is that the characters act like people I know in real life, and they don't drag things out too long.  I loved the way this story ended (nope, not going to tell you!)

If you are look for some sweet college love stories with a nice dose of drama and realistic characters, this series might be for you.  Recommended.
