Blog Tour Review: Sugar Rush by Sawyer Bennett

Title: Sugar Rush (Sugar Bowl, Book #2)
Author: Sawyer Bennett
Release Date: August 16, 2016

Synopsis: In the steamy and suspenseful sequel to Sugar Daddy (“A totally gripping take on romance and revenge!”—Lauren Blakely), a heartbreaking rift threatens to unravel a dangerous alliance . . . and a fragile new love.

After posing as an escort for the Sugar Bowl online dating service, Sela Halstead is looking for one thing: payback. She's closing in on the site's heartless founder, Jonathon Townsend, and she needs Beckett North, Townsend's business partner and her lover, by her side. She'd thought that their intimate nights together had forged an unbreakable bond, but after a shocking betrayal, Sela begins to doubt the brilliant bad boy. When push comes to shove, can she trust Beck to do the right thing?

Now that he understands the truth, Beck will stop at nothing to secure the reckoning Sela deserves. But between his desire for her and his disgust for JT, Beck doesn't exactly have a lot of control over his emotional state. Left with no other choice, he must summon all his discipline to maintain JT's trust and pretend that they're still friends. But how far will Beck go to prove his loyalty to Sela? He nearly lost her once. To keep her, Beck might have to kill for her.

Note: Sugar Rush ends on a cliffhanger. Sela and Beck's story concludes in Sugar Free!

What I thought about Sugar Rush
At the end of Sugar Daddy, Beck had thrown Sela out the door angry over what he saw as her lies and betrayal. It takes him a little while to put the pieces together and realize that Sela was telling the truth about JT, but when he goes to find her, she's gone.

Heartbroken, Sela returns to her father's home and collapses.  Not only has she failed on her revenge plan, she's lost the man that she thought really cared about her.  It's a good thing that Beck comes to his senses and seeks her out, asking for forgiveness. He knows what payments the rapist takes from the victim first hand, and I think that bit of understanding fuels quite a bit of Sugar Rush's story.

I liked that Beck saw that he didn't treat Sela fairly, and there were times that he goes over the top with his apology, but Beck's epiphany is that he is so head over heels in love with Sela. He'll do anything to make her believe it, including participate in plotting a new revenge on JT.

Most of Sugar Rush is focused on Beck and Sela's revenge plan -- how to get JT out of the Sugar Bowl and basically ruin him.  With the help of a private eye, they dig into JT's life and formulate their plan. Other secrets come out in the process, such as JT's lineage and Beck's sister's reasons for being estranged from her family.  What made this interesting, original, and sometimes frustrating is Beck and Sela's venture into the criminal side to get their revenge.

Most of this book was a surprise to me, as I didn't see anticipate how far Beck would go in this revenge plot. I liked that about Sugar Rush, which ends in another cliffie, although that was a little easier to see coming.  Overall, this was a satisfying second installment in this three book series. I'm excited to see how this is all going to play out in the end.

If you are looking for some steamy romance with a side dish of revenge, this could be the book for you!

Sawyer likes her Bloody Mary’s strong, her martinis dirty, and her heroes a combination of the two. When not bringing fictional romance to life, Sawyer is a chauffeur, stylist, chef, maid, and personal assistant to a very active toddler, as well as full-time servant to two adorably naughty dogs. She believes in the good of others, and that a bad day can be cured with a great work-out, cake, or a combination of the two.
