ARC Review:Walk Through Fire by Kristen Ashley

Millie Cross knows what it's like to burn for someone. She was young and wild and he was fierce and even wilder-a Chaos biker who made her heart pound. They fell in love at first sight and life was good, until she learned she couldn't be the woman he needed and made it so he had no choice but to walk away. Twenty years later, Millie's chance run-in with her old flame sparks a desire she just can't ignore. And this time, she won't let him ride off . . .

Bad boy Logan "High" Judd has seen his share of troubles with the law. Yet it was a beautiful woman who broke him. After ending a loveless marriage, High is shocked when his true love walks back into his life. Millie is still gorgeous, but she's just a ghost of her former self. High's intrigued at the change, but her betrayal cut him deep-and he doesn't want to get burned again. As High sinks into meting out vengeance for Millie's betrayal, he'll break all over again when he realizes just how Millie walked through fire for her man . . .

What I thought about Walk Through Fire

Twenty years ago Millie Cross made a sacrifice for the man she loves, and at the beginning of Walk Through Fire, she's slapped with seeing Logan "High" Judd after all those years of being without him.  Her heart immediately wakes up when she hears the voice of her true love, and that's all it takes for these two to be drawn together.

The first half of the book is superb with its treatment of Millie and High reconciling their past and present, and there were a few tissues required. It isn't an easy road for either of them. High is masterful in using sex as a weapon, so be prepared for some scenes that may have you questioning intent, and even though his reaction is understandable, his behavior might be off putting to some readers.

I love stories of true love, and Walk Through Fire does an awesome job of showing that one eternal  true love. That was my favorite part of this story, and I loved Millie and what she was willing to do for her man.  She truly walks through fire for him, and High is perceptive enough to see the toll it has taken on her. I liked that about him.

There was a bit of a tendency to ramble with internal narration in this one, more than usual for a Kristen Ashley book, so that is why this wasn't a five star read for me. I would have liked more Valenzuela drama, and I hope that is coming up in future books. There's also a lot of Chaos backstory in Walk Through Fire which I also loved.

And the rest of Chaos? Well, there are some really great scenes with Tyra and her posse of meddling friends, and Tack is still a dominant presence in this book.   And then there's High's girls, Cleo and Zadie, and I won't ever forget the emotionally charged scene when Millie meets them for the first time -- it's a great scene, and I can still feel Millie's reaction to them just writing this review.

So another good addition to the Chaos MC story.  They are my favorite MC, hands down, and reading any book in this series just feels good.   Recommended.

About the Author
Kristen Ashley grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana, and has lived in Denver, Colorado, and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multigenerational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland, and Kristen grew up listening to the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon, and Whitesnake. Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music and love was a good way to grow up.  And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.
