She's his only salvation

Ace Clemmons has wanted Janelle from the moment he first saw her. Taking her captive while he carried out his last hit as a member of Dirty Eleven nearly broke him. Now that he's gone straight, he's back in her life, looking to stake his claim. He can't erase the past but he'll do anything to make it up to her.

Janelle Parker needs a new start, far away from the trailer park and the strip club. A down and dirty affair with a tattooed criminal is a step in the wrong direction, but she can't resist Ace's deliciously commanding touch, which has haunted her dreams for months. Soon they're both in too deep, falling hard and fast—until an old feud with a rival motorcycle club explodes into an all-out war. Dirty Eleven's enemies won't hesitate to hurt Janelle to get to Ace. She has to fight to survive…and for the fiercest love she's ever known.

EXCERPT:

This scene features one of my favorite real-life settings. Slab City is an off-grid desert community near the Salton Sea in Southern California. You can read more about it on my blog.

Ace was restless after his appointment with Bill, so he drove to Slab City.
He didn’t feel like going home alone. Not tonight.
Instead of cruising down the rows of trailers, he parked outside the art garden and walked through the maze of junk on display. Some of the pieces were as big as houses. Some of the pieces were houses. Replicas of houses, made with off-kilter frames, sharp edges and twisted metal parts. Houses with teeth.
He wasn’t into art, and he didn’t know what the pieces were supposed to represent. The clutter and dysfunction made him sad. He used to want to raze the place. Just demolish everything and clear away the debris. Over time, he’d come to realize that cleaning up the Slabs wouldn’t change the sickness underneath. It would just sanitize the surface and smother the bad feelings, which were better out in the open. Like the art pieces. Whoever had taken the time to make this fucked-up shit had released some demons.
He wished he could do the same.
When he first got sober, he’d avoided all of his old haunts. The Dirty Eleven clubhouse, his favorite bars, every liquor store he’d frequented. He’d enjoyed his solitude the way a masochist enjoyed pain. Demolition work was exhausting. Bill had kept him busy with extra side jobs in his free hours. He’d visited Skye.  It had been a stark existence, but bearable.
Until he met Janelle, and started to want more.
Thanks for stopping by the blog, Jill!

What I thought about Shooting Dirty

I've been wanting an Ace and Janelle story every since Badlands, when these two characters are introduced in that installment of the Aftershock series. Both of these characters are in need of some affection, and the spark between them is off the charts.

Jill Sorenson does an awesome job of continuing that storyline into this Dirty Eleven MC series. This series takes a slightly different look at the Motorcycle Club genre, with characters that want out of the club, instead of getting in.

Ace has been pining after Janelle for some time, and Janelle hasn't forgotten him either, but they've got so much bad stuff between them that it would be difficult to see how they could even have a relationship. Jill Sorenson does an great job of making their relationship work and seem believable in light of the history between them. I loved how the different pieces of that story get wrapped up here.

I thought these two were like matches and gasoline together and their love scenes communicated that so very well. Yes, I thought they pushed the envelope when it came to smexy times and I loved that about this story, because it all just made absolute sense that these two would just about combust when they finally got together.

It isn't an easy road for them, but the ride to the HEA is exciting and the ending so very sweet. I adore how Jill Sorenson creates male characters that have done some terrible things in their past and she gives them a path to redemption.

Shooting Dirty and this gritty world of Slab City is a winner for me.
