ARC Review:5 stars for Downed by Jen Frederick

Synopsis:

He’s the guy no one likes…

Despite winning two national championships, JR “Ace” Anderson was sent packing from his old school after losing the trust of his coach. At Southern U, he has a second chance to prove that his college legacy isn’t endless debauchery and selfishness. But his reputation precedes him, and his teammates offer a chilly welcome in the locker room. The one person who is willing to accept him is the very woman he should stay away from—his new coach’s daughter.

She’s the girl everyone loves…

Bryant Johnson’s only goal in life is to make others happy, even at her own expense. One look at her father’s new star quarterback, and she knows that Ace is her next project. With a reputation for being a “jerk whisperer”, Bryant has spent her last three years at college reforming sorry behavior and turning bad boys into the best boyfriends ever. In Ace, though, she’s met with surly resistance and a sizzling attraction she doesn’t expect. Fixing this wounded warrior will be her biggest challenge yet. Not falling for him will be even harder.

Between her big heart and his damaged one, a battle is ensuing. In this game of love, every defense will crumble.

What I thought about Downed
In this third book in the Gridiron series from Jen Frederick, the story revolves around Ace Anderson.  If you've been following this series, he's appeared in the previous book in the series, and he's now at a new school. He's got 2 championship seasons under his belt, and lots of expectations for him to take his new team to another title.  If only his teammates would accept him!

Ace becomes the project of the coach's daughter, Bryant. She's on a mission to educate guys on how to treat women, and Ace is her new project, only she didn't count on falling for him. She knows he's different, because she didn't sleep with any of her previous projects. Things get very hot between them, and as he opens himself up to her, she questions everything she is doing with him.  I loved how these two learn to understand and accept the feelings they have for each other.  These characters felt fresh and interesting to me.

Ace's father provides quite a bit of conflict to the story as do Bryant's sorority sisters. I really felt for Ace and the situation he has with his father.  It's a tough one, and in the end, he handles it with a maturity he didn't exhibit at the beginning of the book.

Downed might just be my favorite in the series. This story and characters just carried me away, and it seemed like the book was finished much too soon. I adored the changes these two characters went through in this tale, and the writing did a great job of showing their development.

Recommended for sports romances fans everywhere!
