Review:Stay Until We Break (Hub City #2) by Mercy Brown

What happens on the road stays on the road in the latest New Adult novel from the author of Loud Is How I Love You.

Twenty-one-year-old Sonia Grant, a business major, has big plans for a career in the music industry. So when she’s offered the job of tour manager for her best friend’s band, she jumps at the chance for some real life experience. When her number one crush, bassist Cole McCormack, jumps her the first night on tour, she hopes she’s in for three weeks of some hot backstage action, too. But Cole turns out to have more up his sleeve than she or anyone realized.

Nobody knows that Cole is on the road to party like a rock star one last time before quitting his dream to take a more practical job and settle down. What he hadn’t planned was to fall in love with a girl he believes is out of his league. Will Cole play out the rock star fantasy he thinks Sonia wants from him, or tell her the truth and take the chance that she’ll either break his heart or make an even bigger dream come true?

What I thought about Stay Until We Break

I finished this book a few days ago and I'm still thinking about it -- and smiling. I loved the first book in this series, and Stay Until We Break is just an incredible follow-up in this Indie-rock scene romance.

Stars on the Floor are on tour in Stay Until We Break, driving the rock and roll van from venue to venue with Sonia as tour manager. One thing I adore about this series is that it doesn't skimp on the rock and roll aspect of this story. I felt like I was on tour right along with them.

Sonia has been in lust/love with Cole for quite some time and with some liquid courage, she's ready to go for it. Only problem is that Cole really likes Sonia too, and he's not about to go there when she's smashed.  There's a lot of this over the first few dates on the tour and it captured a certain level of Sonia's frustration, because I felt that way too when reading this part of the story.

And Cole?  What can I say? I'm definitely in book boyfriend lust for this character. He's a rocker with an edge and a bad boy past but most of all he's all about Sonia. The way he loves is just so amazing. It's no wonder she loves him right back. His respect for her melted my heart so many times in this book.

In addition to the sweet romance between Cole and Sonia, there's witty, whip cracking dialogue between the members of the band that really had me loving this book.  I highlighted so, so many good lines. And Mercy Brown does a great job with the love scenes, composing them with a good mix of romance and physical attraction that felt fresh and sweet.  The lake scene is just perfect.

Of course, Sonia and Cole have a few challenges to deal with and things get a bit tense for a few chapters.  The ending to this was really touching and it just left me smiling.

Stay Until We Break will definitely be on my best of 2016 list. If you love rock and romance, you should be reading this series. Sweet romance, witty dialogue, and an insider view of the Indie rock scene. Loved it all!  Recommended.
