CALL SIGN KARMA Synopsis:
Love in the no-fly zone…
Distraught over the loss of her brother in a fighter jet accident, Tinklee Pinkerton decides to follow in his footsteps and prove the tragedy wasn’t his fault. But when she’s chosen as the first woman to fly the Air Force’s F-35, her plan for a life that revolves around work is thrown off course by a handsome, mysterious stranger…
Thanks to Locke’s seductive British accent, sweet nature, and one too many beers, Tink is soon inspired to throw caution to the wind and herself into his arms. She thinks maybe love can heal after all—until she discovers Locke is her superior officer. Tink has no problem risking her life in the air, but with everything on the line, is she brave enough to risk her heart on the ground?

What I thought about Call Sign Karma
Tinklee Pinkerton always wanted to fly jets with her older brother. They promised each other they’d both be fighter pilots, and just as she’s getting ready to fly beside him, he’s is killed in a crash that she witnesses. The loss of her brother leaves her filled with guilt, rage and the quest for answers as to why the aircraft went down.
When she meets Locke and he makes her feel alive again, she’s ready to embrace the fact that she has to go on with her life. But things don’t work out quite the way they want when her hot Brit lover shows up at the base and is introduced as a visiting superior officer.
Regulations force Tink and Locke apart, since continuing their relationship could mean both of them losing their wings, but even with that threat, these two cannot stay apart from each other. Another complication comes from a very hot Ash*wink*, a colleague in the Special Forces who also likes Tink. I’m not a huge fan of love triangles, but Tink doesn’t have any conflicts over who she wants for her lover, and that’s Locke. There are some really great scenes between Tink and Ash as their relationship develops into a strong friendship.
When Ash is sent on a combat mission that doesn’t go well, Locke and Tink and the rest of the squadron are sent to assist. Tink experiences her first combat flight and learns more about her brother (not going to spoil that for you) and generally has a difficult time of it. Things get worse when Locke is shot down and lost behind enemy lines. Tink can no longer sit by without doing something. Strap in and hold on for the ride, because things get tense and action-packed and chock full of emotions.
I loved the romance between Tink and Locke. They just really clicked for me, as did Tink’s relationship with Ash. This is my first military romance where the heroine is in the military and I have to say I loved that about it, too. The interactions with her male colleagues, especially how she had to evaluate everything she did in the context of how it would look to them, said volumes about her experience without knocking me over the head.
I did think that some of the military scenes in the exciting climax were more for dramatic effect than realism, but that was okay in the context of the romance. It definitely left me wanting more, and I was happy to hear that Ash would be getting a story.
So overall, great start to the series, can’t wait for more.
