Blog Tour Review & Excerpt: 5 stars for Noble Prince (Tin Gypsy #4) by Devney Perry

Noble Prince by Devney Perry
is now live!

The night Luke Rosen met Scarlett Marks was the only time he's regretted becoming chief of police. One horrific night of blood and death, and now she's living under his roof--all because he swore an oath to serve and protect.

Scarlett is stubborn and infuriating. She has no respect for the order in his structured life, and she never does anything she's told. Worse, she doesn't seem to care that the information she has on a motorcycle gang means she might end up dead. But her unwavering strength, her courage and tenacity and beauty, makes it impossible for him to abandon her.

If Luke is going to keep her safe, he'll have to make the hardest decision of his life. He can either honor his values as a cop, knowing Scarlett is unlikely to survive . . . or he can break all the rules and protect the woman who's invaded his home and his heart.

Excerpt

“If you’re not going to get out of the way, I’ll just go around.” I spun on my shoes, whirling the opposite direction, but when I went to take a step and carry my basket away, I suddenly found its weight missing from my arm. He’d stolen it from me before I’d had the chance to clutch it tight.

Then the world was spinning. The floors, the ceiling, everything flipped topsy-turvy.

I’d fainted.

No, that wasn’t right.

I was being carried. Hauled. That had been Luke’s threat and damn it, I’d underestimated him. The chief had made good on his word.

His shoulder dug into my belly as he walked. I lifted my face, pushing the hair out of my eyes. My basket of food sat exactly where I’d been standing. My chicken and rolls and cookies and chocolate milk. The items grew smaller with every one of Luke’s strides.

“Put me down.”

He kept walking.

“Put me down!” I shouted.

Still, he kept walking.

I lifted a hand and raised it above my head. My hair kept falling in front of my face, obscuring my vision, but that didn’t stop me from using every ounce of strength I had left. I brought my fist down on Luke’s lower back. Except my aim was shit so I didn’t hit his back. No, my fist bounced off his firm, perfect ass.

Luke didn’t so much as break his stride. “I promised Presley I’d keep you safe.”

And without another word, without stopping, he carried me in a fireman’s hold out of the grocery store and into the snow.

I was going back to the daisies, whether I wanted to or not.

Hello, Scarlett. I’m rock bottom.

What I thought about Noble Prince

In this fourth book in the Tin Gypsy series, the story picks up right where Stone Princess left out and deals with Scarlett Marks, Presley's sister. She's hiding from the rival MC who thinks she's responsible for stealing 100K of their drug money. After escaping from her safe house, Chief of Police Luke Rosen knows he has to find her a new place to stay and Scarlett ends up hiding at his place.

They are both attracted to each other and it doesn't take long for Scarlett to let down her defenses for Luke. And Luke has been falling for her since he took her from Presley's place months ago. It's only a matter of time before they are spending quality time in the bedroom. When he finds out just how much trouble Scarlett is in, he ends up turning to Dash and the former Tin Gypsys for help. Totally loved this part of the story!

Both Scarlett and Luke are in deep with each other when Scarlett's time is up with the Warrors and the rival club shows just how nasty they can get, leaving Luke with a difficult choice of protecting his woman and staying in the confines of the law. He's really in a tough spot here.

This book is at the top of my favorites list in this series. It's got good tension and suspense and some great action to wrap thing up. And Scarlet and Luke just work together so well. I loved the setup for the next book in the series as well.

This series just gets better with each story and Devney Perry does a terrific job of including characters from previous books in the series so that readers can check in with them. I really like that about this author.

Overall, a page-turning terrific romance with a good dash of suspense.

What I thought about Beyond the Roses

You can probably tell from the blurb that if you are looking for a good book-cry, this one might just be the one for you.  Monica James always does a great job of wringing out the emotions in story, so I expected I might need a tissue or two when I read this one.

I really liked the themes that this book explores like fate, love, hope and the afterlife. There's a whole lot of joy and sorrow, pleasure and pain.  There weren't any major surprises in plot for me, but I did like the examination of some of these other topics.

Overall, the story worked for me for the most part, and it may be uncomfortable for some because of subject matter (terminal illness), but if you are looking for a deeply emotional fated romance and need a good cry, this one will definitely do it.

An ARC was provided. This is my honest review.

Cover Reveal: Don't Kiss the Bride by Carian Cole

Carian Cole has revealed the
title, cover, and blurb
for her
  upcoming release,

Don’t Kiss the Bride!

Coming Soon!

We had one rule.
Breaking it sealed our fate forever.

My dream was simple. Graduate this spring, save up enough money to escape the house of horrors I was living in, and see the world in a cool RV with my cat, Gus. No strings.

Then I passed out and face-planted in front of sexy, brooding Jude “Lucky” Lucketti, and he rushed me to the ER. It wasn’t one of my finest moments. But it was one of his. I guess you could say I was a damsel in distress, and Jude was my knight in shining armor. He became my own personal hero, turning up in all the right places at the right times.

But in reality, I was a girl with a serious eating disorder and a lot of bad luck, and he was a hot, older construction worker with lots of muscles and tattoos.

Under his rough exterior, he was a good guy. We became friends, and it didn’t matter that he was sixteen years older than me. We had a lot in common—like our love of rock music and vintage cars, and a mutual anti-marriage stance after coming from broken homes.

So when he proposed, it wasn’t like you think. He figured if he married me and put me on his insurance plan, I could get the medical treatment I needed and couldn’t afford. He even told me I could move into the extra bedroom at his house.

I said yes.

The arrangement would be temporary. A marriage on paper and nothing else. Within a year, we’d divorce.

It should have been easy, but it wasn’t.

Because here I am, eighteen years-old, still in high school, and married to a man I was never supposed to fall in love with.

I did, though.

We had just one rule—no kissing the bride.

Little did we know, breaking that rule on our wedding day would seal our fate forever.

PAPERBACK ISBN 978-1683692058 • AUDIOBOOK OUT FEB 9, 2021

The Office meets Stephen King, dressed up in holiday tinsel, in this fun, festive, and frightening horror-comedy set during the horror publishing boom of the ’80s, by New York Times best-selling satirist Andrew Shaffer.

Out of work for months, Lussi Meyer is desperate to work anywhere in publishing. Prestigious Blackwood-Patterson isn’t the perfect fit, but a bizarre set of circumstances leads to her hire and a firm mandate: Lussi must find the next horror superstar to compete with Stephen King, Anne Rice, and Peter Straub. It’s the ’80s, after all, and horror is the hottest genre.

But as soon as she arrives, Lussi finds herself the target of her co-workers' mean-spirited pranks. The hazing reaches its peak during the company’s annual Secret Santa gift exchange, when Lussi receives a demonic-looking object that she recognizes but doesn't understand. Suddenly, her coworkers begin falling victim to a series of horrific accidents akin to a George Romero movie, and Lussi suspects that her gift is involved. With the help of her former author, the flamboyant Fabien Nightingale, Lussi must track down her anonymous Secret Santa and figure out the true meaning of the cursed object in her possession before it destroys the company—and her soul.

What I thought about Secret Santa

The synopsis does a good job of giving the main points, so I'm not going to give away any further details because that's most of the fun with horror -- it's all about the reveal of the story. It's those moments when you jump a little as you are reading the story make it a five star read.  Secret Santa did that to me a few times -- it made me want to scream at Lussi in a few different places -- what are you doing girl? Get out of there!

There's a folk tale associated with this story that made things interesting and a lesson if you are into that sort of thing.  The cultural references to the 1980's also brought some relief to the more sinister activities in the story and put a smile on my face.

The story is complete but on the shorter side, so it's something you can devour in an afternoon or two. It's easy to get involved in the story and keep turning those pages to see what was going to happen (and who would be left standing!). Secret Santa also validated my aversion toward the whole secret santa activity, in general.  I mean really, has anyone ever been happy with their Secret Santa gift? This story gives whole new meaning to that holiday ritual.

I liked this. The cover is amazing and made me want to read it.  The story kept me reading and it didn't drag things out.  It had just the right amount of horror, suspense and humor. Can't ask for anymore more.

About BLACKLISTED:

From the New York Times bestselling author of the Marked Men series comes an irresistible and suspenseful romance between a doctor who plays by the rules and the outlaw who breaks them in order to protect her.

Dr. Presley Baskin has always lived a quiet, calm life. Unfortunately, nothing about her life in Loveless, Texas -- especially not the wild, rowdy, and impossibly close-knit Lawton family who've claimed her -- is quiet or calm. Which is how loner Presley finds herself roped into patching up local bad boy Shot Caldwell against her better judgment. Presley wants nothing to do with the dangerous, brooding leader of the local outlaw motorcycle club. But when someone starts stalking her, Shot is the only person she trusts to help. Plus he owes her one . . .

Palmer 'Shot' Caldwell has always known his life isn't made for relationships. At least until shy, secretive, Presley reluctantly pulled a bullet out of him. He's oddly protective of the pretty doctor, so when she comes to him for help, hard-hearted Shot suddenly realizes there's nothing he wouldn't do to keep her safe.

What I thought about Blacklisted

Romance readers! There's a new book boyfriend in town and his name is Shot Caldwell! You might remember him from the previous book in this romance series from Jay Crownover. There's a good dose of suspense here as well.

So, when we last met Shot, he was, well, shot a number of times and Dr. Presley Baskin gets the call to come to her sister Kody's Lawton's bar to help him under police radar. It leaves Shot in the position of owing her one, an he doesn't like that. And he doesn't like the fact he's drawn to Presley in a way he hasn't experienced before.

I love a romance where the "never-going-to-have-a-relationship" hero falls really hard, and Shot does just that. He can't stay away from Presley, and she does need his protection since her enemy stalker is still on the loose. Presley tries to stay away from him, not wanting to jeopardize her relationship with her new family, but she can't. He's just too... persistent. Rawr.

When Shot collaborates with Case and Hill to bring down Presley's stalker, things don't go as planned with disastrous consequences. I was surprised by a few things in this book, and the ending was one of them. I just loved it!

Overall, I loved this book and this series. There was a nice amount of suspense complementing the romantic elements. There is a bit of a slow start with this one, but once it gets going, things really move along quite nicely. I loved these characters and I liked how the Lawton family comes together. And really, Shot was most definitely worth it!
