What I thought about Deliver Us From Evil
Punky finally gets to dole out his revenge in Deliver Us From Evil, the third book in the Deliver Us From Evil trilogy. Monica James brings it with a full-on dark romance that gives Punky and his Babydoll their HEA -- only it's not an easy ride to get there.
Continuing to find liars and betrayers, Punky must decide whether he wants to stay in this world that has taken so much from him. I think this was my favorite part of this trilogy -- Punky has a big heart in him that he is fighting to keep amidst all the back-stabbing and the fight for ruling the area.
I was really excited for this book. Punky's journey has been a dangerous, bloody mess and if anyone deserved a HEA. And while I thought this was a good conclusion to the series, I also thought there was something missing here in terms of emotions. Maybe Punky was just tired of it all... maybe too much had happened to him and his lady love, I can't put my finger on it, but it felt a little too much of a checklist to deal with all of his enemies, and less about wanting to hold on to the bit of good he had in his life. Other readers opinions may vary on this -- it was just my feeling that the emotional content was more a creation of the external circumstances, rather than the feelings the characters had for each other.
No matter though, Deliver Us From Evil had the usual villains, twists and turns that I've come to expect from Monica James and I did like that about Deliver Us From Evil.
