―Publisher's Weekly

Still Standing, an all-new emotional and fiery MC romance from New York Times bestselling author Kristen Ashley, is available now!

When Clara Delany walks into the Aces High Motorcycle Club’s hangout, she’s hit rock bottom. She’s hiding her car from the repo man, she has less than two dollars in her bank account and the only employment she can get is delivering messages for a criminal.

All because of a man. Therefore, she’s sworn off them.

And then she meets West “Buck” Hardy, president of the Aces High MC.

Buck also meets her, and the minute he does, he makes it clear (to everyone but Clara) that they’re starting something. Since Clara doesn’t get that message, she decides to leave Buck and sort out her life in order to come back to him clean.

She’s not gone but hours before life hits Clara with another blow. Which means Buck and his boys have to ride in and save the day. After that, Buck makes no bones about where they stand.

But does he?

Welcome to the first novel in the Wild West MC series which will tell the stories of the brothers of the Aces High MC, the Resurrection MC and the Chaos MC…and the women who love them.

Excerpt

“Babe,” he growled.

A warning.

Definitely.

I’d gone too far.

I also didn’t care.

“Okay, so then does Tia have to sleep with one, or, say, all of your boys?”

“Don’t do that shit. You know that’s not what I’m talkin’ about.”

“So maybe you’ll explain what you’re talking about.”

“I would, you shut your trap.”

I shut my trap and stared at his shadowed head.

He stared at mine.

Then he muttered, “Christ, need my head examined.”

“You could get off me,” I reminded him.

“Is this shuttin’ your trap?”

I shut my trap again.

“You take of care my house and my business as well as me.”

“What does that mean?”

“That means you move outta the apartment before they kick your ass out. You move into my house. You keep it clean. You keep me fed, that is, when I’m not feedin’ you, and I like to cook, so mostly, I’ll be feedin’ you. You come to work with me and take care of the office, and you go home with me.”

Wow.

Was he serious?

That sounded like…it sounded like…

My God, it didn’t sound like a sex-for-safety arrangement.

It sounded like a relationship.

What I thought about Still Standing

If you have read Kristen Ashley's Chaos series and loved it, you are in for a treat. There's an almost parallel universe to the Denver Chaos series and it's Arizona's Aces High MC. It's all part of the new series from Ashley called the Wild West MC series.

Clara Delaney has hit a bad patch. A really bad patch. She has no money, an ex-husband in prison and is forced to work delivering messages to various underworld players in Arizona. She meets her match when she's slated to bring a message to Buck Hardy, president of the Aces High MC.

Buck is classic MC president material. He's experienced in many things, especially in getting a woman in his bed. But he wants more from Clara (or Toots as he calls her). A little (or a lot) of tequila, a game of pool and Clara ends up right where he wants her. It was this opening scene that really hooked me into this story. Buck's interest in her is more than temporary, and she will need to learn to trust him and that isn't always easy when dealing with a MC that rides the fine line of staying on the right side of the law.

I was sucked right into this story quickly and I was genuinely interested in what was going to happen to Clara and Buck. Clara is sharp and persistent -- Buck is a good-hearted, heavy-handed caveman type committed to protecting those he cares about, especially his family. There are many common shared themes between this series and the Chaos series and readers of Chaos will certainly see the similarities.

I enjoyed this story, even though it wasn't the most original MC I've read. It's a great escape to a different world where the men might rule, but they have one weakness and that's their women who they will protect at all costs. IThere's a nice setup for the upcoming stories.

So overall, a good start to the series, and I hope there will be some new and unique developments coming in upcoming books.
