5 stars for Harbor (Beards & Bondage #3) by Rebekah Weatherspoon

Betrayed and set adrift…

Months before she’s set to walk down the aisle, assistant district attorney Brooklyn Lewis suffers an unthinkable loss. It’s bad enough her fiancé is violently taken from her, but along with her grief she must also process the fact that the man of her dreams was unfaithful. Friends and family want to see her heal, but Brooklyn doesn’t know how to move on from trauma and deception until she discovers she’s not the only one broken by this tragedy.

A light in the storm…

Attorney Vaughn Coleman and his partner Chris Shaw have also lost the love of their lives, who was found lifeless in the same bed as Brooklyn’s fiancé, taken from them by the same killer.

Unmoored by grief, Brooklyn, Chris, and Vaughn fall into a relationship that both fulfills them and threatens to pull them under the waves of guilt, but they soon realize it may take the love of three people to bring their battered ships back to shore.

*This romance features a polyamorous relationship between two men and a woman, with BDSM overtones*

While this is a stand alone novel, there are additional characters featured in other stories. Reading order for the characters in this story: Haven, Sanctuary, Xeni, Harbor

What I thought about Harbor

Harbor begins with a brutal crime that leaves at least three people shattered in its wake. They find an uneasy comfort with each other, but the relationship is complicated with unresolved guilt, negotiation and understanding with new partners, and fear of public recrimination.

Now, here's the thing, I don't want to spoil it for you with too many details.  Part of the charm of this story is experiencing the ups and downs, the indecision and their collective heart-ache and recovery as they move past what happened to them.

There are so many reasons for Brooklyn to deny her feelings and desires for Vaugn and Shaw. I adored that their situation was fraught with questions as to should-they/shouldn't they, and the skillful way the author shows the inner workings and complexities of a polyamorous relationship. There are many hard conversations in Harbor, the ones that don't go easy or smoothly, like real-life conversations.  Not everything gets resolved like magic and I adored that about this story.

I was left with a super girl-crush on Brook.  She had an amazing sense of self that even she doesn't recognize at time, so smart and yet not afraid to be emotional, and she has a great sense of humor.  This is one of those books where I have tons of highlights because I related to the characters words and thoughts in so many places.

I just really loved everything about this book. It's definitely on my favorites of 2020 list. Not only is this book steamy hot (did I mention that! So hot!), it contains some terrific conversations and problems that need nurturing to be solved. I'm going to admit  that these are characters that will stay with me for a few days.  Fantastic end to a terrific and unique series.

An ARC was provided. This is my honest review.
