Lonely
physiotherapist Harry Foster has the world at his feet. A full client
list, a six figure Instagram following, and a publishing deal for a book
he doesn’t have time to write until his agent offers him a break—a
retreat to the wild south west coast.
Cornish horseman Joe Carter is lonely too. Rescuing horses and managing Whisper Farm takes up most of his days, and by night he plays chicken with the farm’s perilous bank accounts.
At his sister’s unwelcome suggestion, he rents his only bedroom to a bloke from the city, and when Harry arrives, he’s everything Joe isn’t—calm, patient, and gorgeous enough to be exactly the kind of distraction Joe doesn’t need.
Harry doesn’t have time for distractions either—even shirtless farmers riding bareback past his bedroom window—but his moody host proves impossible to ignore.
On paper, they have nothing in common, but Joe is beautiful…glorious, and when an accident puts his life in Harry’s healing hands, the whisper of true love is inevitable. If the trouble that put the farm on its knees in the first place doesn’t get in the way.

What I thought about Whisper
I really liked the first book in the Skins series, Dream, so
I was eagerly anticipating the second book, titled Whisper. In this book, Joe Carter is the operator of a
horse rescue farm and he gets along much better with the horses that he does
with people. He’s frustrated with keeping the farm afloat financially, and he’s
also dealing with a deep level of loneliness, that is until Holistic Harry
rents Joe’s grandfather’s old room.
Harry Foster is a physiotherapist with a book deal. He’s got to get away from his everyday
routine if he ever wants to finish the book he been contracted to write. So he
ends up renting a room at Whisper Farms.
He’s immediately taken with Joe, and he isn’t too put off by Joe’s initial
unfriendly behavior. Harry is lonely
too, and it isn’t long before Joe and Harry brush up against each other enough
to start some real sparks between them.
Whisper wasn’t quite as heavy as the last Garrett Leigh
title I read, and I really appreciated that.
This story has a lighter tone and more optimism amongst the everyday
drudgery. Harry is extremely likable,
almost too much so, but he balances Joe’s surliness out quite nicely. Harry
finds his place in the world at the farm, and in the process Joe and Harry
bring out the best in each other. Even
though there’s a bit of insta-lust, it is more of a slow burn between them that
I really liked.
The Carter family makes for nice secondary characters, and
it was great to get mentions of Angelo and Dylan from the first book in the
series. What I love about this series is
that the characters are working class people dealing with everyday issues. Garrett Leigh makes that interesting and I
just love the language in her books as they make me feel like I’m taking a mini
vacation. It makes for a great escape.
If you are an animal lover (especially horses) and are
looking for a slow burn MM romance, this might just be the book for you.
