What I thought about the Dandelion

Michelle Leighton is back with a heart-ripping tale of second chance love in The Dandelion.  I stayed up late reading this book and here's a gentle warning --

you just might need a tissue or two when you read this. It's got all the feels.

Abi has returned home to the lake, a place where she once knew happiness with high school boyfriend Sam. She's definitely carrying some heavy weight in her life, and the trip back home seems more like a mission than a vacation. It turns out she's there for a specific reason.

Sam has made a good life for himself but he too is carrying the heavy weight of a terminally ill spouse Sara, who thinks that Abi will be a perfect replacement wife for him.  (see why I said tissues...) Unfortunately, Abi's secrets end up putting the best laid plans in a tailspin. 

If you are looking for a "good cry" sort of book, this one will do it, but those tears are often cathartic for both reader and characters. I just loved that about this book.  The story telling is awesome in The Dandelion. Michelle Leighton reveals things about both Sam and Abi perfectly. The story is primarily in Abi's point of view, but there are some chapter's of Sam point of view just at the right time and it really enhanced the story's emotional content.   

Yes, this story is heavy but there's a ton of hope at the end of it.  The Dandelion kept me up until the wee hours of the morning, and it was worth it.
