This personal note is something the author asked that we share with you:

A NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR

This book is not a romantic fairy tale. Yet, it’s the most romantic story I’ve ever told.  It’s a journey of pain and loss, of hope and happiness.  It’s both achingly tragic and exquisitely beautiful.  It’s a love story.  A true love story about real love. The kind that sees you through the night and holds you when you cry. The kind that won't give up and never lets go. The kind we all dream about and few find. But it’s real. I promise you, it’s real. I’ve seen this kind of love, and I've seen this kind of heartbreak. I got to see it up close and personal, and quite honestly, I will never be the same.  I hope it changes you as much as it changed me.

The Empty Jar

Three months touring Europe.
Romantic.  Dazzling.  Unforgettable.
The trip of a lifetime.

But some lifetimes are shorter…

We couldn’t have known it would work out this way.  No one could.  No one could’ve guessed that something so beautiful could be so tragic.

But it is tragic.
Yet so, so beautiful.

That’s what sacrifice is—beauty and tragedy.
It’s pain and suffering for something or someone you love.

And this is the ultimate sacrifice.
One stunning act of true love.

This is our story.

Our true love story.

What I thought about The Empty Jar

The Empty Jar is a beautiful and very emotional love story between Nate and Lena.  What makes this book special is that it's focus isn't on how their story began, but more how their story develops.  I've been wanting a book about how love evolves over the course of a relationship, and this story did just that.

I can't really talk about the plot without spoiling things, but I will say this is a book that will touch you. It will wring some emotions from you and make you cry.  If you are in the mood for something like that, this book is for you.  That's not to say it's not about love. Because it is. Very deep, forever kind of love.

M. Leighton took a real chance in writing The Empty Jar. The realism of the circumstances, especially those most of us will face at one point in our lives will not appeal to everyone. It's not your typical romance, but it's very much about love. If you like to examine the many emotions of love and aren't afraid to shed a tear or ten over characters in a book, I think you'll like this story very much.  I know I did.

ARC Review: Brave Enough by M. Leighton

From the author of the New York Times bestselling Bad Boys novels comes another dark, sexy story…

Is she brave enough to give her heart to a man she only thought she knew?

He was the most charismatic man I’d ever met. Strong, tough, brave. Bold as hell. Something told me Tag Barton could have anything—anyone—he wanted...and he wanted me. It didn’t matter that he was wrong for me in practically every way possible. It didn’t matter that my father would hate it.

I couldn’t resist him. Even if I’d known who he really was and what he was really capable of.

When he suggested we pretend to be engaged, I thought he was the answer to all my problems. He wasn’t. And, in his wake, he left nothing but scorched earth and me, just another casualty of my father’s war.

Can I believe him now when he tells me he loves me?  Or is he nothing more than a beautiful, breathtaking lie?

What I thought about Brave Enough

Weatherly O’Neil has grown up priveliged but rebels when her father wants her to marry for money.  She runs away to her parent’s vineyard and meets the charming and gorgeous Tag. He was part of the Special Forces team that included Jasper and Kiefer, characters from the previous books in the series.

He wants Weatherly to be brave enough to take a chance on him, but he’s got secrets and that provides the conflict for this story.  Tag is what I call a sweet alpha – he knows when to be charming, he knows when to be strong and he knows how to be dirty when it comes to the bedroom and other places.  There’s a lot of steam between these two and some insta love as they fall hard for each other.

This book felt different from the first two in the series, and because of that it stands alone nicely.  I didn’t mind the change in atmosphere and thought that it brought the series into the “light”.   The pacing was a little slow for me, so that’s why I’m not giving this five stars, but overall, I enjoyed this final book in the series.

From the author of the New York Times bestselling Bad Boys novels comes the second book in a dark, sexy contemporary trilogy.

He’s a fighter who never loses, but is he tough enough to win her heart?

There was a time when I had everything–a wonderful family, a bright future. Love. But all that was taken away in a single night, torn from me like flesh from bone. Since then, I’ve hidden away in my second-choice job as a makeup artist. But I prefer it that way, actually. I’m comfortable in the shadows, where no one can see my scars.

Kiefer Rogan literally took my breath away the moment I met him. MMA champion-turned-actor, notorious playboy, charming to a fault—he’s everything I vowed to avoid.

But he just wouldn’t stop until I opened up and let him in. Maybe I should’ve tried harder to resist him. Maybe I shouldn’t have fallen in love with him. Because I, of all people, know that everyone has secrets. Scars. And that they’re usually ugly and painful and destructive to the people we love most.

I just never guessed that they could be deadly, too.

What I thought about Tough Enough

This second installment in the Tall, Dark and Dangerous series from M. Leighton slows things down a bit, at least for a good part of this story.
Katie Rydale is a make-up artist, living a quiet life when Kiefer Rogan comes into her life.  He's an MMA fighter doing double duty as an actor and he's sitting in her make-up chair.  He's immediately intrigued by Katie, and she feels something toward him, even though she is a bit surprised at her reaction to him. Kiefer is also part of the Delta team we met in the first book in this series.
Katie has learned to protect herself after a past incident that has left her scarred and broken.  She doesn't want to get involved with the good-looking man with a reputation.  But he is determined to woo her, and that's just what he does for a good part of this story--with equal parts of determination and patience.
This is a story about two people who have traveled a rough road with past events that have shaped who they are today.  It's also a story about hope and trust and really living rather than just surviving.  I loved how Rogan was patient with Katie, and I loved that there was some real wooing going on in this story.  M. Leighton nailed it with fantastic emotional content in this story and it was wonderful.
Most of the action in this story happens in the last 25% of this book, when the twists and turns come.
Tough Enough is a fast read because M. Leighton pulls you right into the story from the opening pages.  You can't help but fall in love with these two characters. I'm looking forward to the last book in this trilogy.
