Excerpt

Something in me snaps.

He’s halfway down the first set of steps when I stop him again.

“Noah?”

His head jerks back and he pins me with those glorious eyes. I start toward him before I can change my mind, walking quickly down to meet him on the stairs.

I stop on the step above his and stare down at him.  The blue of his irises has been overtaken by swollen pupils and his eyes are the black, black, black of the night outside.  

I’m on his level now, nose to nose, and my heart is racing like I’m standing on the edge of a cliff, the wind howling at my back, uncertainty swirling all around me. Chills break out down my arms, but I wrap them around his neck anyway, pressing my chest to his.

“Last week you said you wanted to know what’s going through my head,” I remind him.  “This. This has been going through my head since the day you walked into the diner.”

I mash my mouth to his. Hard. We both just sort of stand there, smooshed together, taken by surprise.  I wait for several seconds, hoping he’ll take it from there before I wither up and die. When he doesn’t, I start to lean away, humiliation ready to burst forth and drown me.  But before I can turn and run back to my apartment with my tail between my legs, Noah brings one big hand to the back of my head, stilling me.

Wordlessly, he watches me.  Seconds pass. Or days. I can’t be sure which.  Time ceases to exist, to even matter when he looks at me.

A few achingly slow heartbeats thump by before he tilts his head and leans in, softly brushing his lips over mine.  

Finally.

I exhale the breath I’d been holding. I was so nervous, I don’t think I’ve breathed since I opened my door.  

But I’m breathing now.  Breathing him in, gulping in this moment, tucking it into some treasured corner of my soul.

I close my eyes, inhaling deeply, memorizing the scent of his soap, the smell of his skin.  Reveling in the hint of peppermint and nighttime leeching from his lips onto mine.

Back and forth, he rubs his mouth over mine, coaxing it open with a sexy artfulness I didn’t think men really possessed. At least not in real life.

But Noah does.

He works my needy flesh like he knows it better than I do.  His tongue whispers over the edge of my bottom lip, breezes past the inside of my top one, and teases along the side of my own until a groan bubbles up and out of my throat, unbidden.

I melt against him, my torso conforming to his as he supports me with his strong arms. I’m not thinking. I’m not worrying. I’m not planning. I’m simply lost, lost to the storm of sensation he’s stirring up within me.  It’s building, the energy, and I know I’m just getting a taste of the tropical storm I knew this man would be. Beautiful chaos lies at his center. I’m absolutely certain of it.

And absolutely drawn to it already.

What I thought about The Way We Burn

Wow! M. Leighton has crafted a tight crime drama and romance that will have you on the edge of your seat for the last half of the book.  It's going to be tough to say too much without spoiling, so this review is going to be short.

I'm a big fan of romantic suspense and The Way We Burn has a really nice level of tension and suspense throughout and especially at the end which happens at break-neck speed on top of everything else.  There's a lot going on in this book and if you really pay attention, you'll might guess at good part of the twists and turns coming, but there were still some twists I didn't expect and that made for awesomely twisted surprises. 

So if you are looking for a dark, romantic, twisty little mystery with a nice level of action, you might just like The Way We Burn.

What I thought about Dashing Through the Snow

In this holiday novella from M. Leighton, Dilyn gets to spend her most hated holiday interviewing some rich playboy in the Colorado mountains.  Doesn't sound like much of a hardship, does it?  The problem is that she's struggling with the ending/possible rekindling with her ex-boyfriend and Dash, the playboy, is out of her league. 

But her resolve to keep it professional falls apart when Dash puts his charm to work on her, and in spite of her best intentions, Dilyn finds herself falling for the playboy after a sweet and steamy night in front of the fire.  

In the light of the morning however, Dilyn is faced with having to make a decision, one which she comes to regret and that's when the holiday magic come back in full force.

When I read a holiday novella, I want some magic and Dashing Through the Snow delivers!  There's a ton of chemistry between Dilyn and Dash and while Dilyn and Dash will have to made some serious decisions on who they want to be with, this is really a lovely holiday tale of finding love which left me feeling happy and wanting more of this couple.

What I thought about Levi's Blue

 One thing I love about Michele Leighton’s books is that they are unique.  There’s always something about them that gets right to me, whether that’s the story or the writing or the wonderful hero’s and heroine’s she crafts.  Levi’s Blue is no exception, starting with the yummy cover and title that twists your head around a little.

Evie isn’t exactly confident when it comes to men. She doesn’t trust them.  But when she meets Levi, she gives him a bit of a chance. Four dates is all he has to change her mind about their future. These two are super-sexy when they are together. If you want passion, you definitely get it with Evie and Levi. Passion for me is a lot about how the couple talk to each other and these two really do the banter up right.

Of course there are some bumps in the road that are going to give them challenges.  Levi has a secret and when it gets revealed, their connection gets tested big time.  I love a man confident enough to be able to really work for what he wants, and Levi does an awesome job of reminding Evie of everything they are together and just what she means to  him.

Another winner from M. Leighton.  I love books that make me feel something, and she always manages to stir something inside me that keeps me wanting to read her work. Recommended.

Today is cover reveal day for M. Leighton's upcoming release entitled The Empty Jar.  She wanted to say a little something about the cover before we reveal it and the description, so here she is.

First of all, a huge, heartfelt THANK YOU to all of you amazing women who are helping me reveal this cover today. I appreciate everything you do for me, for authors in general and for this community.  As a reader, I love you, too:)

Secondly...

OMG OMG OMG!  IT'S FINALLY TIME TO REVEAL!

I feel like I've been waiting AGES to share this with you!

This cover... GAH!  Y'all, it took me forEVER to get it just right. There was a certain "feel" that I wanted to achieve with it and I wasn't happy until I felt that "feel" jumped right out when I looked at it. I wanted the cover to speak of the book. I wanted it to show the highs and lows, the sweet and the poignant, the depth of it, if you will.  And finally...finally, I feel like it does:)  You might not realize just how much NOW, but once you read this story, you'll be like, "Yeah.  That cover is perfect for this book!"

When I got the paperback proof in the other day, I held it in my hands and I just stared at it.  Not only is this story extremely special to me, but this is probably my favorite cover of all my books.  Ever.  When I look at it, I see so much more than just a picture.  I see all the things that I find in life, as well as what I put into the story that is The Empty Jar.  It's a blend of happy pinks and brooding blues. It's light and it's dark.  There are highs and there are lows.  There is morning and there is night.   But if you notice the sky on this cover, there are little flickers of brightness in the bodies of the lightning bugs. Life is that way, too. Even in the darkest part of the night, there is a spark of hope.  There is beauty.  There is the romantic glow of a full moon, the silvery face of your mate, the delicate twinkle of fireflies. It's all there if we look closely enough—that balance of beauty and tragedy.

And love.

Always love.

Below is a little more about the book. It's hard to tell you much without spoiling anything, but I think you can get a feel for it.  It's such a special story.  So raw, so real. I honestly can't wait for y'all to read it! I hope you love IT and the cover as much as I do:)
