 What I thought about Flame

I'm a late-comer to this series, but I do love these Dark King stories.  I can't say that I've read all the books in this series, but from a paranormal romance perspective, I find that I just love the Dark Kings and what they stand for and the women that find them irresistable. I was intrigued by Constantine many books ago. Each book does bring us closer to the showdown between the Fae and the Dragon Kings.

Noreen warns the Dragon Kings that something bad is coming their way and Cain is sent to investigate.  He is at first skeptical that Noreen is going against her clan, but eventually comes to believe her and understand just what she is risking by warning the Dragon Kings.  

There is some insta-love going on here, which is part of the charm of this paranormal series, even though Noreen and Cain start out on opposite sides.  I really like these books more for the romantic aspects but I've found the external conflicts between the Dragon Kings and The Others intriguing and I've gotten more interested in that part of the story as this series is in its last few books and that part of the story comes to a conclusion.

Overall, another good read in this paranormal series.  There's a good buildup to the conclusion happening in this story along with the romance between Noreen and Cain.

“Who are you?” she repeated, this time with authority in her voice.

Royden didn’t want to like her, but he did. It took serious courage to stand up to a stranger in a cave, much less one who had used magic. He’d probably have to get Guy to come and wipe the mortal’s memory of him. So much for no one at Dreagan knowing he was gone. Shite. This wasn’t turning out as he’d hoped.

He threw her question back at her. “Who are you?”

“Annita Dragoumis. This is my family’s land, and you’re trespassing.”

There was something about her bossy tone that went straight to his cock. Which was the last thing he needed. “I willna be long. I just need a few hours.”

“For what?”

He sighed, doing his best to keep his patience. “I’m looking for something.”

“Sure you are.  The fact remains that you aren’t supposed to be here.”

Royden was finished playing games. He knew he was in for a world of problems now that a mortal hadn’t just seen him in dragon form but had also seen him shift. He needed to turn the tables on her and quickly.

“You’re in a dark cave with a man you doona know, and you’re issuing demands?”

Her eyes narrowed. “You aren’t Greek.”

“No’ in the least,” he stated.

For a heartbeat, she stared at him as if trying to figure out his accent. “Welsh?”

“Now that stings, lass.” Though he was impressed that she knew English.

“Scottish,” she said with a smile. “You’re from Scotland.”

Royden bowed his head. “Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, it’s time for you to leave and forget you’ve seen me.”

Annita shook her head of dark brown hair. “I can’t do that.”

She wasn’t afraid to speak her mind or stand up to an unknown man in a cave, and she could speak fluent English. Who was this woman?

What I thought about Dragon Lost

Annita was told she would meet a dragon someday, and when swimming in the caves along the family beach, she comes across a man swimming -- or was he a big beige dragon first?  As much as Royden wants to make her believe she was only dreaming, Annita knows what she saw and what her grandmother told her was foreseen for her.

Once Royden finds Annita he feels compelled to stay with her, even though Con, the King of the Dragon Kings (when do we get his story!) is concerned about him and wants to know when he's coming back. So Royden stays and gets to know Annita, breaking the rules to tell her the history of the dragon kings before leaving.  He's given her a week to decide if she wants him as a mate, which does come with some conditions and some sacrifices.

I got involved with this series reading an earlier novella from Donna Grant in this 1001 Dark Nights series. It's a great way to get a taste of a series, and see if you might light an author's storytelling. I found this Dragon Kings series and I was hooked on this world of Dragon Kings with the Scottish accents!  They are lots of fun and very romantic, so if that's your jam, you might like this series.

What I thought about Dark Alpha's Temptation

I'm going to be clear up front -- I jumped into this series somewhere in the middle, so my thoughts may be from a different perspective than those faithful readers that started with book 1.  That being said, it hasn't made a huge difference to me that I didn't read the entire series.  While the book works better if you know all of the history and backstory from book one, it's really the romance that keeps bringing me back to this world of dragon kings and reapers.

This book features Kyra, a Light Fae who's job it is to track down her loved missing family member.  She's going to use reaper Dubham to help her in her quest.  When they have an instant spark together, there's little mystery to how it will turn out, although there's guaranteed to be some twists and turns for both of these characters. 

There's a lot going on in this world and things are building to a conclusion (aka battle) that I'm eager to read.  This book felt a little like a transition book helping to stoke the excitement for a great fight.  There's tremendous paranormal world building in the Reapers and Dragon Kings series, but if that isn't your thing -- you can just enjoy the romance.  I do.

So overall, another satisfying romantic story set in this world that Donna Grant has created

What I thought about Fever

 When anthropologist Bernadette Davies threatens to expose what she knows about Dreagan and the Dragon Kings, something must be done about it. Kelton goes to check out Bernadette and what she knows. If you've read any of the books in this series, you know what happens.  There's a spark between these two that won't be denied.

Since these books are meant to be able to be read standalone, there's usually a good bit of page time devoted to giving some background to the story. Not having read this series from the start, I'm not that invested in the Fae aspects of the story. I'm more interested in the developing love story between the dragon king of choice and his mate.  Fever did not disappoint in this aspect of the story.

There's something sexy and charming about the Dragon Kings that just keeps me coming back for more. If you are a fan of shifter paranormal romance, with a rich, full world, you might like this series.

What I thought about Dark Alpha's Redemption

Bradach is sent on a mission that he really doesn't want -- he's to infiltrate the Dark Fae on a mission to find one of the missing.  I'll be honest, the details of the mission isn't what pulled me into the story.  It was Maeve, the Dark Fae that Bradach falls for. Even though he hates the Dark Fae, he's entranced with Maeve and for good reason -- she kicks butt in a major way.  I love strong heroines, and Maeve definitely fits the bill.  

This was my first Reapers story, but I have read a few of the Dragon King series, so I wasn't completely lost with the story. This is a big universe and there are many characters, so I will warn that while you can read this as a standalone and totally enjoy the romance part of the story like I did, you would probably enjoy more about the characters if you read the previous books.  

There's some great action in Dark Alpha's Redemption, along with the romance, so if that's your thing, you might like this story.  I did.  Things are building to a big showdown and I just can't wait!

What I thought about Ignite

I'm late to this series, and I was lured into reading this by the 1001 Dark Night Series title, Dragon Fever.  At the time I didn't realize that there were over 15 books in the Dark King series.

I was just in the mood for some dragons!

If you like your H with a lot of alpha and a good heart with a dash of self-sacrifice, Vlad is your dragon king.  He's all about what is best for all the dragon kings, and he's considering going back to his mountain.  That is, until he meets Claire.

Clair and V are drawn to each other, but V fights it or at least tries to as he reconciles his feelings for his brethren and his feelings for Claire until Claire finally pushes him to the brink. Claire and V's love story is engaging and it had me turning the pages.

I did find the intrigue involving the fae difficult to follow since I haven't read all the books in the series.  I had the sense of what was going on but it wasn't the main attraction for me. It was really Claire and V's story that grabbed me.
