Book Blurb:

From authors Chelle Bliss and Brenda Rothert comes a smoldering standalone enemies to lovers romance that will, ahem…check all your boxes.

Reagan

I hate him. Jude Titan is everything that’s wrong with the male sex: cocky, domineering and loaded with swagger. Oh, and did I mention he’s a Republican? Yeah, the guy’s so conservative he leans to the right when walking. And lucky me, I’m running against him for Senate. But I’ve got plenty of fight in me. A golden boy war hero opponent with a smile that leaves melted panties in its wake? Bring. It. On.

Jude

Damn, she’s sexy. Reagan Preston intrigues me from the moment I lay eyes on her. And speaking of laying…I want between those thighs. But I want to make her burn for me first. Every debate and stolen moment is foreplay for us. She claims she hates me, but her body tells a different story. I plan to win this election, but I also want to win the sharp, fiery Democrat who captures my attention like no woman ever has. Politics is filthy, just like all the things I want to do to Reagan Preston.

What I thought about Dirty Work

Dirty Work is a very timely romance tale set in the world of politics.  Jude and Reagan are on opposite sides of the fence, and that just makes for more sexual tension between these two characters as they square on during their political race.

Jude is a war veteran running on a platform that includes better services for other veterans and it's hard not to love him just for that.  But he's a sexy dude that knows how to use what he has and when he meets his opponent, sparks fly.

Reagan has been groomed to take her politician father's role in the family but she hasn't counted on falling for her opponent. She's a bit reserved and stiff until Jude comes along and melts her.  I really liked this setup for the story because it kept things moving and gave some nice tension to the story.

There's great chemistry between these two characters and that made for a great romance.  I love the timeliness of this story too.  Overall, a very nice contemporary romance that will appeal to a wide audience. Nicely done!

 What I thought about One

I always have a hard time writing a review for a book that I loved. It seems harder for some reason.

One is the story of Cage and Lake, two characters that were introduced briefly during the Jack and Jill series. Now I loved that series hard, and I think that Jewel E. Ann writes a witty, tangled love story, so loving Cage and Lake wasn't a stretch.

In this second chance romance, Lake just happens to be living across the hall from one of Cage's teammates, and it doesn't take long for them to reconnect.  Lake is one interesting character and for me, her learning to live with the loss of the leg was secondary to her guilt over the way she lost it.  That made her interesting, and I adored her sense of humor. She jumped off the page for me and I couldn't get enough.

Cage makes a great book boyfriend, and he does some really lovely things for Lake. Together they had me smiling.  I liked that this book was a bit lighter than the Jack and Jill series because it showed off Jewel E. Ann's sense of humor.  It's what makes me want to jump on her books as soon as they are released!

So, basically I loved this. There's humor, there's romance, great secondary characters and it left me smiling.

TEASE 2 2

THICK & THIN EXCERPT

“You don’t want to remember?”

I didn’t. Not a single memory. A touch that was new, a taste that was different—that’s what I wanted. Memory came with emotion. It came with commitment, something that would land me back where I’d begun four years ago. I wanted to move beyond that. I wanted more.

“I…I want you to touch me like you don’t know me.” That hand slowed, the friction easing and I couldn’t look at him. “I want you to touch me like a stranger.”

He didn’t stop moving against me. Ransom wasn’t purposefully cruel. He thought he knew me, assumed he knew when I was pretending. But I wasn’t this time. I wanted him to give me what I asked for, not what he thought I wanted, not what I had wanted in the past. But he couldn’t do it.  No, he wasn’t a stranger. He knew how close I’d come to climax. So he didn’t stop, only slowed before he moved his hips, release my wrist to pull my face up. And because I recognized how badly he wanted this, and knew that I would end up wanting it, too, I let go of wanting anything else and gave myself up to his touch, his fire, his desire.

“A stranger doesn’t touch you, Aly. Not like this.” And with that one touch, Ransom fractured the reserve I had tried so desperately to maintain. A push of my flesh, finger under my thong, right against my clit, bare, raw and that tactile, desperate urgency eased.

“A stranger wouldn’t know what you whimper when you want it, when you’re so close to falling apart that your breath becomes a muffle of sound.” He tugged at my pants, freed me from anything but the floor under me and his touch. His palm over my naked ass, then he pulled me against his body until he pushed his fingers inside me, working me hard, like no one but Ransom ever had. Ever could.

“No stranger would know that your breath hitches, that you hold everything still, the air in your lungs, even the beat of your pulse when I touch you.” He showed me then, with the dip of his fingers deep inside. And all did go still then—the breath between us, the axis of the world, my beating heart…it all seemed to stop until he moved his fingers over me, sliding until he found his way to a rhythm that made time coil and speed as quickly as it had slowed. Nothing held me back then. No excuses of why he shouldn’t touch me, no lies I told myself about not loving him anymore.

“I’m not a stranger, nani. Your body knows that.” Working faster, deeper, he smiled, pleased and happy when my mouth opened, when the space between us filled with the soft noises I made. His face wasn’t expressionless anymore. It told me all I thought I’d forgotten. The act of touching me, making me come, the noises I made, it was all familiar to Ransom. It was comfortable.

“Strangers don’t know love this deep. If they did, they wouldn’t be strangers at all.” That he whispered against my lips, kissing me like he couldn’t keep from it for another second.

“Ransom…”

“I’ll never be a stranger, Aly, because this body, your heart is mine. It always will be.”
What I thought about Thick & Thin
I should start out by saying I'm an Eden Butler fan and I'll give you warning I might gush all over the place because of this book. I always thought that Eden Butler took a chance with Kiera and Kona's story, and she does it again with their son Ransom. This is at times material that will make you a little uncomfortable. She loves to rip your heart out too, so yeah, there's a lot of that in this book.

The book picks up where the previous book ended, with the love of Ransom's life getting engaged to another man. It's a gut wrenching beginning, so I knew right there I was in for an emotional ride.

But this series is a lot about enduring love.. the type of love that can weather the storm created by serious situation and issues.  Ransom and Aly take some time to find their way back to each other, and there are some serious stressors on Kona and Kiera's marriage too.  It isn't an easy time for the Riley-Hale family, but this story has always been about how people who love each other make it through tough times and I liked that a whole lot about this series.

One of my favorite things about this series is the diversity, and it is presented in a way that informs the reader about the customs and traditions of the Hawaiian and Creole culture. I could feel the love within the pet names and little words they have for each other.

Thick and Thin is a great conclusion to this engaging series.  As always, Eden Butler gives the reader some really terrific scenes, awesome dialogue and a unique story. If you aren't reading her books, you should really consider giving them a shot.

This book is best read as part of the series, rather than standalone for maximum enjoyment (re:emotions!). If you are looking for something a little different from the typical contemporary romance, something with a little bit of an edge, this series might be for you.

Review:True North by Tamsen Parker

Four months ago, Slade Lewis got to fulfill his wildest, long-repressed BDSM fantasies during a one-night stand. Since then, getting more has been the only thing on his mind.

When Slade manages to earn the keys to Reyes Walter’s kinky kingdom, he finds himself face-to-face with none other than Pressly Allwyn, the pearl-bedecked love of his life whom he pushed into divorce six years ago.

Now she’s back, and the fetish he was afraid would drive them apart instead draws them together. They indulge in their common kink together, but past hurts and old insecurities complicate any relationship outside their erotic exploits. Caught between the worlds of hot-button politics and even hotter bedroom games, Pressly and Slade will have to decide how far they’re willing to go for a second chance at happily ever after.

True North is out now!

What I thought about True North

Okay. I seriously devoured this book.  I really love this series because it not only has very hot men, it also has brilliant career women that embrace their sexuality. For me, that's what makes it the most appealing and steamy!

After a divorce neither of them wanted, Slade and Pressly separately find their pleasure with the help of Reyes, datemaker for his kinky clients and tutor to those new to the world of kink.

It's Slade that has the most difficulty accepting the things he likes to do, and he's pretty clueless about how that contributed to the destruction of his marriage. When he runs into his wife at The Black House, the passion Pressly and Slade had for each other hasn't died out...yet.

I loved that this book was from Slade's point of view.  I think that really made it for me. It was lovely to get inside his head and realize how much he still loved his ex-wife.  That made for a very sweet love story.

While Pressly is interested, she's also been burned by Slade -- and she's going to protect her heart. Engaging in BDSM scenes is one thing, giving her heart away is something entirely different.  My heart hurt for both of them.  I just loved the emotional punch of this story.

This is a great addition to The Compass series. The writing is great, the emotions are fine tuned.  I would have liked to see some of Slade's training in more detail though, especially since the reader only gets his point of view. (which I loved)
